OCTOBER ELC HAPPENINGS
7th Annual Bird & Nature Art Show
sponsored by Pelican Island Preservation Society
The Environmental Learning Center is proud to partner with Pelican Island Conservation Society to present the 7th Annual Bird & Nature Art Show through the month of October.

There will be other related activities taking place throughout the month of the show, such as birding tours, sunset wine and cheese cruises to Pelican Island sponsored by Vero Beach Outlets, and an artists’ reception on October 16th.

Plein air artists are invited to paint at the ELC or Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge on Saturday, October 2nd. Artists wishing to participate should arrive no later than 8 AM.

Tuesdays & Thursdays | 10:00 - 11:30 AM | Ages 7 - 12
$60 for 1 month (pre-registration required)

Get out and about on ELC's Campus and study how we move through water as we explore energy and forces. It will involve an energy scavenger hunt, building and testing toy sailboats, collection and observation of aquatic animals, and exploration of the physics of kayaking.
**Please note the VeroX Pumpkin Patch scheduled to start in October at the ELC has been cancelled**
YOGA
Held Fridays from 1- 2 PM
This all-levels class suitable for beginners will focus on core stability and isometric and body weight resistance-based muscle toning. Each class will provide a whole-body workout to promote body awareness, physical discipline, mental focus and a spirit of youthfulness and joy! 
QIGONG
Held Monday thru Saturday from 9 - 10 AM

Qigong uses movement, self-massage, visualization. The idea that human beings are more than flesh, blood and bone is not new. The idea that there is an energy, a life force, that animates our physical bodies is gradually being integrated in our sciences and culture.

Native Plant Walk with ELC and Pelican Island Conservation Society

Wednesday, October 6, 13 & 20
at 9:00 AM

Join us and explore real Florida on this easy short hike through the ELC’s 64 acre property that comprises beautiful coastal hammock, salt marsh and tidal swamp. We will be talking about halophytic (salt loving) plant communities, the nature of Florida’s endangered bromeliads, and about what makes wild Florida so unique. Bring water and proper sun protection.

Hook Kids on Fishing with Anglers for Conservation and ELC
Saturday, October 16
9 AM - 11 AM

In partnership with the Environmental Learning Center, Anglers for Conservation (AFC) is coordinating AFC’s Hook Kids on Fishing (HKOF) program.

Kids ages 5 to 15 are welcome and registration is $5.00. This program is limited to 40 kids that will receive a free rod/reel and tackle box thanks to the Fish Florida Tag Foundation.

Author Chris Fasolino shares the stories of artistic expeditions in a collection replete with gorgeous artwork that includes high-definition images of Audubon's rarely seen original paintings.

A free nature enrichment and early literacy program for children 18 months to 4 years old and their parents, grandparents, and guardians.

ELC Members-Only Walk at North Sebastian Conservation Area

This 407 acre property offers a mosaic of different habitat types including one of the healthiest and most biodiverse sand pine scrub and oak scrub on the treasure coast, that are also home to the endangered scrub jay, as well as a beautiful freshwater marsh.

SEPTEMBER RECAP
September was packed with happenings at the ELC. We held our Artist Series Open House and unveiled our newly renovated Discovery Station! The campus was filled with smiling faces for our Lagoon Academy for kids ages 7-12 and our Little Wonders Program for children age 18 months - 4 years old.

Off campus, Members enjoyed a guided nature at the Toni Robinson Waterfront Park while learning about native plants and the community joined the ELC Crew for the International Coastal Cleanup at Riverside Park.
More than 100 gathered at the Environmental Learning Center Artist Series Open House on Wednesday night for an outdoor cocktail soiree.

Each activity has been rated on an Adventure Scale of 1-10 to help you select just the right amount of wild you are willing and able to handle, with Level 1 being pretty tame and Level 10 being the wildest we have to offer.
