Make Food Not Waste
We are excited to announce that NSO will be partnering with Make Food Not Waste to provide meals to residents in the Homeless Recovery Services Program! Make Food Not Waste’s Executive Director, Danielle Todd, has generously offered to provide 15-20 family meals once a week. Each meal serves 4-6 people and will help feed all 61 residents. This is an exciting new partnership that will benefit the shelter greatly. Thank you to Danielle and her team!

Make Food Not Waste (MFNW) is a Detroit-based nonprofit founded in 2017 with the purpose of “inspiring home cooks to waste less”. In the United States, Americans throw away 40% of the food we grow. As this food breaks down in the landfill, it releases methane into the atmosphere and contributes to climate change. To combat this, MFNW redirects food heading into the landfill towards meals that feed the Detroit community. The organization has also created a virtual cooking series taught by professional chefs that educate young adults on topics like cooking techniques and avoiding food waste.

The team behind Make Food Not Waste’s work in the community is Executive Director Danielle Todd, and chefs Ederique Goudia, and Alexis Chingman-Tijerina, and Shay Goudia. The lead chef, Ederique Goudia, was named a 2021 Detroit Free Press/Metro Detroit Chevy Dealers Food Fighter for her service to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic. With her team at MFNW, they served 1000 meals for Thanksgiving and 6000 meals for Christmas. MFNW has been continuing their work by providing meals to community members and organizations every Friday, fighting food insecurity and food waste on a daily basis.
