Game Day Magic

Jessica and Bridgette had a great time at Comerica Park watching the Tigers play against the Guardians. Although it rained briefly, the sun came out, making it a perfect day for the ladies!

A Journey to Belonging

Recently, Cody achieved one of his personal ambitions. He aspires to become a police officer or at least volunteer with law enforcement. Last week, he devoted his time to assisting the police at the Bike Rodeo and also helped The Rotary Club of Amherstburg with their BBQ event. Cody met many new people and had the chance to spend time with police officers and firefighters. It was truly a journey to belonging at its best. Overall, it was a fantastic day for Cody.

Bridging Ambitions

If you were to ask Derek, one of the things he’s most excited about is the opening of the Gordie Howe International Bridge. Since the very beginning, Derek has been closely watching the construction and learning all about it. Recently, Derek took the Gordie Howe Bridge Tour with Windsor Premier Cruises to get an up-close look at the new international crossing. While on the tour, Derek learned a lot of interesting facts about it, including that it will be over 700 ft tall and close to 2.5 km long, making it the longest cable-stayed bridge in North America! Derek can’t wait to travel across it to Detroit when it opens in the fall of 2025.

Quest for Thrills

Kyle, Kelly, Marie Ellen, Josie, and Seth recently spent the day at Cedar Point. They enjoyed the food, the shows, and especially the water rides on this particularly hot day. Kelly was the thrill seeker of the group and went on many of the more intense rides! They are thinking that they'd like to check out Canada's Wonderland next.

All Aboard!

John and David enjoyed a day trip to Port Stanley. While there, they took a pleasant ride on the train and enjoyed the scenery. They later decided to have a relaxing lunch by the beach.

Symphonic Serenity

John, Seth, and Marie Ellen enjoyed the free Windsor Symphony Orchestra concert at Ojibway Park.

As the summer weeks fly by, it is never too soon to slowly reintroduce routines that will be needed in order to make the transition to fall more easily tolerated.

Summer days are often accompanied by later bedtimes and later rising times. Slowly move bedtimes forward. Make morning wake-up times a little earlier each day. By the time fall has arrived evening and morning routines will be established and there will be less stressful days and nights.

July and August spent outdoors often means irregular eating— more relaxed dinner times, easy - often un-nutritious food choices, and a complete lack of structure. Time to re-establish three meals a day, healthy beverages, and infrequent snacks.

Living in bathing suits, t-shirts, and bare feet may be the usual in July and August, but fall requires more thought. Help your child, young or old, take responsibility for picking out appropriate clothes, making sure they’re clean, and finally putting clothes away. By the end of summer they will be excited to put together outfits- some new- that they had responsibly for selecting and taking care of.

Every household, which includes parents, has enjoyed more unstructured time over the summer, and so we can assist our kids by also re-establishing routines that will make our introduction to fall less chaotic and far more enjoyable. They learn by example. Set good examples for your children. Routines give all of us calmer days ahead.

Relish the final weeks of summer knowing that fall will be welcomed and present changes you and your family can easily manage.

Happy August 🌞
