Speaking of hearts -

Dr. Rick Richter has written an article on AFIB for us!

Are you familiar with AFib?

AFib is a common form of an arrythmia that has some serious health implications. AFib is very prevalent in our population, affecting over 2.2 million people in the US alone. Chances are that several of our fellow parishioners have AFib and may be suffering from some of the complications arising from AFib.

We were so glad to welcome Summersby Okey from our Outreach Partner, Habitat for Humanity of York Co, this past Sunday!

Summersby shared about Habitat's mission - "Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity of York County brings people together to build homes, communities and hope." and vision - "A world where everyone has a decent place to live."

She discussed the many ways Habitat works to lift up whole communities as part of the individual home projects.

She also talked about the Better Together Build, which is being done in memory of Earl Gatlin, which our partnership grant supported. This project will be completed in the next month or so.

When asked what a good first volunteer experience with Habitat would be, Summersby recommended helping in the Habitat ReStore!

WELCOME HARRIS FAMILY!

Two years ago, Kyle and Kristy Harris, and their daughters, Jaidyn and Lexi, moved from their hometown, Green Springs, OH, to the Charlotte area for Kyle to pursue a dream job as Director of Performance at Tread Athletics (a nationally prestigious baseball training facility in Pineville). It was a big decision for Kyle and Kristy to leave their hometown and their families, but they now are happily settled in Fort Mill in the Waterside community.

Kristy graduated Mercy College of Northwest Ohio and started her 25-year career as an X-Ray Technician. She is currently an x-ray technician at Piedmont Medical Center – Fort Mill and currently has been working weekends as a traveling x-ray technician. Kyle received his undergraduate degree from Defiance College (where he played baseball) and later earned his Master’s degrees from Bowling Green University (Leadership) and Concordia University (Exercise Science). In Ohio, Kyle was a Health/Physical Education teacher and coached many different sports over the years. This August, Kyle will become a teacher/coach with Trosky Academy, which is opening a new regional baseball academy (academics & training) in Rock Hill.

Jaidyn (16), a junior at Catawba Ridge High School, is the leadoff hitter for her school’s softball team and spends a lot of her time year-round practicing and playing softball. Lexi (12), a 7th grader at Forest Creek Middle School, plays volleyball and softball, loves animals, and enjoys serving others.

Kyle and Kristy like to go hiking, listen to live music, and volunteer in the community. Their favorite family vacations are always at the beach, especially the Outer Banks trip where their extended family joined them. Another favorite trip was a week of hiking in the Sapphire Valley. As for who is the best cook in the family, Kyle and Lexi share that title. One of their favorite meals is smoked pork butt and roasted potatoes.

The Harris family has a long history of commitment to community service, going back to the food pantry Kyle’s grandmother opened many years ago in Fremont, Ohio, which still serves their community. In the past, Kyle played guitar in the praise band in their church. They look forward to learning about opportunities to get involved in Grace.

The Harris family visited Grace for the first time at Christmas in 2022 and knew then it was the right fit for their family. Prior to moving to this area, Kyle attended Grace Lutheran in Fremont, OH, where he and Kristy were married. Their family they attended Grace in Fremont until moving to the Carolinas. We welcome the Harris family to Grace Rock Hill and are glad you found your church home here.

Rachel's Ring (card ministry) is restarting on Wednesday, August 14.

We will meet in rm.105 at 11:00 am. We will begin making cards that day. All who are interested are welcome.
