Let's Start Here
Interested in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work at Engineering?
Everyone in our FAMU-FSU Engineering community is invited to join our diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts at the college. This past year, our Let’s Start Here (LSH) Leadership Committee began this work in earnest for our faculty, students and staff. We are currently accepting volunteer interest in serving on the newly-formed Engineering DEI Advisory Council, which will pick up where the LSH committee left off.

In addition to the DEI Advisory Council, there are myriad other ways to get involved in creating a college culture that is more inclusive, offers equal opportunities for all and celebrates the diversity on our campus. There’s something for anyone who is interested in this important work. Please take a moment to complete this form if you are interested in joining us.

Here’s the link separately if the hyperlinks above don’t work: https://famu-fsu-engineering.forms-db.com/view.php?id=146403

Thank you!

Opportunities for Undergraduates
2023 Summer REU at NJIT
The Chemical and Materials Engineering Department at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT) will host its second cohort of students for the "Undergraduate Research and Innovation Experience in Cancer Diagnosis and Therapeutic Intervention."

Nellone Reid and Sagnik Basuray will host 10 students over the 10-week (5/22 - 7/28) summer program. The students will work with 1 of our 10 faculty mentors and take part in a variety of seminars, workshops and social activities.

Student participants will also receive transportation to and from NJIT, housing for the 10 weeks, funds for meals and a $6000 stipend. Students from underrepresented communities with a lack of research facilities and resources at their home institutions are encouraged to apply. Such institutions include but are not limited to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and 2-year community colleges. We suggest that interested students ask a department faculty professor for a direct recommendation.

The application deadline is January 20, 2023.

NSF Funded Training Programs from Rosetta Commons
Rosetta Commons REUA Cyberlinked Program in Computational Biomolecular Structure & Design Interns in this geographically distributed REU program have the opportunity to participate in research using Rosetta Commons software. The Rosetta Commons software library includes physics-based and deep learning algorithms for biomolecular modeling and design. It has enabled notable scientific advances in computational biology, including de novo protein design, enzyme design, ligand docking, and structure prediction of biological macromolecules and macromolecular complexes. Students learn the inner details of PyRosetta and community coding environment. Students research in a molecular modeling and design laboratory, developing new algorithms and discovering new science. https://www.rosettacommons.org/about/intern
RaMP: Post-Baccalaureate Training Program in Biomolecular Structure Prediction and Design: This one-year fellowship program is intended for students from groups underrepresented in STEM, first generation college students, and students at under-resourced institutions to gain research experience to succeed in PhD programs. Along with a salary, health insurance, and funding for conference travel, the RaMP offers a code school, hypothesis-driven research, graduate school preparation, specialized mentoring, and professional development. Since the RaMP is a cohort program, participants gain by learning alongside their peers. The community elements of the Rosetta Commons consortium are also advantageous to trainees.
Engineering Thriving Study
Dear engineering student,

Interested in reflecting on your own thriving? As part of a research project at the University of New Hampshire (IRB-FY2022-235), thriving engineering students are invited to take a survey on engineering thriving. This project seeks to develop a way of accurately measuring thriving that can inform universities on ways to better support student thriving.

By participating in this research project with your .edu email, you will be entered into a drawing for one of twenty $40 Amazon gift card AND receive a personalized report of your thriving profile.

You can access the survey here: Engineering Thriving Survey

If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Julianna Gesun at Julianna.Gesun@unh.edu.
