Tildenville Elementary School Community Brief Monday, July 29, 2024 (Summer #3)
Dear Mark,
This past week the Florida Department of Education released annual school grades for K-12 schools throughout the state. We are extremely pleased to share with the community that Tildenville Elementary School earned another 'A' grade for the year! This is something that our entire school community should be very proud of as it reflects upon all the efforts made by our Tiger students, their amazing teachers, our dedicated support staff, so many education-oriented parents, our devoted volunteers including PTSA & SAC members, and our most charitable partners in education. Congratulations Tigers! Thank you Teachers! Congratulations Tildenville community!!

Tigers in the Spotlight!
We are so proud of these Tigers as they just spent a week practicing their Spanish at the Casco Viejo Spanish School in the Republic of Panama. Such an amazing experience that was built on all the Spanish they’ve learned at Tildenville.

Orange County Public Schools Transportation Services is asking families to register in advance for transportation services for the 2024-25 school year.
The early registration will help the district best prepare with the most efficient routing.
"Even though the district has worked to fill as many positions as possible, there is still a nationwide shortage of commercial drivers, and OCPS is still being impacted," OCPS representatives said in a press release. "The purpose of this registration is to reduce bus delays and allow for the streamlining of routes to meet the transportation needs of our families."
Families can register by accessing their Skyward Parent Portal account and completing the OCPS School Bus Registration Form.
The form will have a dropdown to choose ridership for each child, with options being in the morning, afternoon, both or not at all.

Special Summer Feature to The Tiger's Roar!
Tildenville's Learning Garden, PTA, Mrs. Weisbecker, Emma's Garden and The Winter Garden Bloom and Grow Society!
| |
PTA and Mrs. Weisbecker worked together and were awarded a $5,000 grant from the Winter Garden Bloom and Grow Society. Checkout all that has been done in the garden this year. The vendor used for the garden beds was Emma’s Garden.
* The grant we received of $5,000 was used to install two new permanent brick raised garden beds, complete with irrigation for $4,500. The remaining $500 was used for a small garden sink and various supplies. The garden beds were built by Emma’s Garden, a vendor that I found at the Spring Fever in the Garden Festival. Robert, the owner, has an incredible vision, and his company was the perfect fit for our needs. I hope to continue to work with him on future projects.

* Our learning garden at Tildenville Elementary is used in a variety of ways. Our teachers bring the students to the garden for hands on learning. They incorporate the Florida Standards in math, science and various subjects, whilst exploring the gardens. The students can measure water, sunlight, growth of plants, observing insects, and so much more. We also have a Garden Club that meets twice a week to plant and tend the garden.
* This past school year, we were able to successfully grow a variety of vegetables and plants, thanks in part to our new garden beds that Bloom and Grow has funded for the last two school years. Some of our successes include an herb garden, so many beans, carrots, radishes, Seminole pumpkins, onions, kale, and the sweetest, largest crop of tomatoes I have seen! Our summer crop of ginger is growing larger by the week as a surprise for the students return in August. The basil has self seeded, and continues to thrive. Our pollinator beds around the garden continue to attract wildlife, and the students are so joyful when they see the butterflies and caterpillars enjoying our garden.
| | |
* The Tildenville Learning Garden has been growing for the last dozen years or so. Over the years, the space has changed, along with the students. The Florida weather and the Covid absence to the garden affected the land and soil. These new garden beds have brought new life back to the space. The joy and devotion that the students have to the garden is what keeps it growing. They love to come back week after week to see their hard work pay off.
* The support that the Bloom & Grow Garden Society provides for the Winter Garden community is so impactful. On behalf of the Tildenville PTA, and Tildenville Elementary School, I would like to express our sincere gratitude for your continued support of our school, and invite anyone interested to visit our garden to see the impact your organization has. We look forward to continuing our relationship.
Families and community members, we look forward to having you visit and volunteer in our school garden this school year! We will be posting more information on how you can do this in the weeks to come!
Thank you for reading. Enjoy your week!
