Connections: September 14, 2021

Dear Beloved Community at CCSM,

We had a wonderful Homecoming Sunday - the service, in the sanctuary and online was inspirational. It is going to be a great fall and there are many ways to be connected in beloved community. If you missed it, click the link below and watch, I guarantee you'll be blessed. I look forward to continuing our series this coming Sunday as we talk about restoration and healing -- the road to wholeness.

On September 12th the Christian world lost a theological giant-- Bishop John Shelby Spong. The progressive Christianity movement owes him a debt of gratitude. He was very dear to me personally-- when he preached at my former church in the mid-nineties, he was the first straight religious leader I ever heard say that he "celebrated" the gifts of LGBT people. His theological and spiritual courage touched countless lives. He was unafraid to say what he believed and was willing to keep growing and changing, was a prolific author, and most of all, lived a life of extravagant love.

May we live on in his legacy.

Love,
Penny

P.S. Please keep reading below--consider coming to help out on Saturday morning, or signing up for the class on racism that begins Monday. And remember, today is the last day to vote!!!
