The Abundance of Fall

At the Northshire Bookstore, abundance is in the air. As we move into the foliage season with crackling leaves, woodsmoke, colorful trees, and fall’s full harvest, we are grateful for all that we have. Our loyal customers and fellow readers are giving our independent bookstores great support, and it’s wonderful to see you safely visiting our stores once again.

Authors and publishers are rolling out exciting and thoughtful new releases, and the offerings are vast. Our book and gift buyers are working diligently to stock up for the upcoming season and, despite supply chain issues nationwide, their hard work has kept our bookshelves full and inviting. Our shipping and receiving and web order teams are getting to full strength and are keeping the books flowing. Our rare book buyer is displaying some exciting rare Autographed Editions as well. Come see the well-stocked results of all this effort ahead of the normal holiday shopping season.

Along with books, our knowledgeable and friendly professional Booksellers are not only the key to our success but also key in your loyal interaction with our stores. We all have our favorite Booksellers whose recommendations we follow closely. They certainly remain, but in recent months we have added many new dedicated Booksellers. As you visit, look for Connor, Duncan, Efton, Elizabeth, Jaim, Jordan, Julia, Misty, and Reilly. They will be greeting you and sharing their interests along with our veteran Booksellers.

We are ready and excited to see you so “Shop Early & Shop Local!”

Jonathan Franzen’s gift for wedding depth and vividness of character with breadth of social vision has never been more dazzlingly evident than in Crossroads.

" A new novel from Jonathan Franzen is typically a significant event in the world of American literature--and with good cause. Franzen's strength has always been his ability to portray the minutiae of humanities' ego, id and superego, most specifically as regards the writhing, twisting tortured wranglings beneath the surface of an American family. This is a novel set in the flower-child world of the early 1970s and a family headed by a deeply conflicted associate pastor. Herein lie near-all-consuming religious zeal, horrendous sin, the rippling scars of personal history, and the ever-present power struggles that play out between siblings, spouses, and parents and their children." Pre-order Highlight

A work of unparalleled candor and splendorous beauty, The Lyrics celebrates the creative life and the musical genius of Paul McCartney through 154 of his most meaningful songs.

From his early Liverpool days, through the historic decade of The Beatles, to Wings and his long solo career, The Lyrics pairs the definitive texts of 154 Paul McCartney songs with first-person commentaries on his life and music. Spanning two alphabetically arranged volumes, these commentaries reveal how the songs came to be and the people who inspired them: his devoted parents, Mary and Jim; his songwriting partner, John Lennon; his “Golden Earth Girl,” Linda Eastman; his wife, Nancy McCartney; and even Queen Elizabeth, among many others. Here are the origins of “Let It Be,” “Lovely Rita,” “Yesterday,” and “Mull of Kintyre,” as well as McCartney’s literary influences, including Shakespeare, Lewis Carroll, and Alan Durband, his high-school English teacher.

With images from McCartney’s personal archives—handwritten texts, paintings, and photographs, hundreds previously unseen—The Lyrics, spanning sixty-four years, becomes the definitive literary and visual record of one of the greatest songwriters of all time.
