What you need to know for the J-School Recognition Ceremony |
The J-School Recognition Ceremony for 2022 doctoral, master's and bachelor degree graduates is Saturday, May 14, at the Lied Center. Graduates must have RSVP'd to participate. Doors will open at 7:45 a.m., and the ceremony will begin promptly at 8:30 a.m. Graduates should report to the Pavilion area in the Lied Center before 8:10 a.m. and will start lining up for the processional at 8:20 a.m. Please be on time, wear your cap and gown, and don't forget to bring your name card. The ceremony also will also be livestreamed on the Lied Center website. After the ceremony, join us for a reception on the Stauffer-Flint Hall lawn. Janet Rose awarded the Katich Award for Creativity |
Congratulations to Professor of the Practice Janet Rose for being selected as the 2022 recipient of the Katich Award for Creativity. The Katich Award recognizes a J-School faculty member who has demonstrated creativity in teaching, research, service or a combination of these areas. It was established to honor former J-School Professor John Katich, a dedicated teacher who loved students and inspired them to exceed their own expectations.

Apply now for Urban Student Journalism Academy |
The Kansas City Association of Black Journalists is accepting applications for its free Urban Student Journalism Academy, which will be Aug. 15-19. The event is for Kansas City area high school students and college students interested in print, broadcast or media-related careers. Only 12 students will be admitted to the weeklong academy, which will take place this year in the high-tech classroom of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City. The Asian American Journalists Association and the Native American Journalists Association Pacific Islander scholarship deadline is May 31. Two scholarships of $4,500 will be awarded. Apply here.
Submissions are open for Arterial Ink Volume II, an anthology of fiction, nonfiction and poetry relating to the legacy of William Allen White. Winners in each genre will be published in the book, and authors will have the opportunity to deliver a reading from it at William Allen White Legacy Day in Emporia on Oct. 2. Are you a doctoral student interested in health communication research? Associate Professor Mugur Geana has a graduate research assistant position available for Fall 2022 to work on his NIH-funded project as well as to conduct research at CEHCUP. The GRA position includes full tuition support, a stipend and fringe benefits. Applications are open to all doctoral students in our program, including those starting their first year of study.
