Medina High School - Career Exploration Site Hosts Needed

The Medina High School Career Exploration Opportunities program is growing and is now its fourth year! This unique credit flex opportunity (.5) provides high school juniors and seniors with an overview of the entire job search process from in-house staff and guest speakers on current job markets and trends. Topics include crafting a cover letter and résumé polishing, cultivating an appropriate digital footprint, interview skills, evaluating job offers and learning from not being offered a job. This experience allows for 40 hours of job shadowing in a field of interest over eight weeks time. The process begins with the student participating in a real interview with the site host to practice newly acquired interview skills. Job shadowing runs from the end of September to the end of November with the schedule arranged to be convenient for the student and host. Shadowing will allow a student to understand numerous positions which contribute to a company’s success and the type and level of schooling necessary for each.

Becoming a site host is easy! The process begins with a brief visit from the CEO advisor at your site and the signing of a shadowing agreement. The CEO advisor will visit at least once to see the student learning in the professional environment. Please email Shayna Samosky at samoskys@medinabees.org to receive more information on how you can help provide this meaningful experience to an MHS student!

For the fall semester, we are most in need of placements in the following areas:

computer systems analysis/programming, physical therapy, sports management, art history, public health, HR management, chemical engineering, financial advising, business management.

Vitalant - Emergency Blood Shortage; Donors Needed

Continued strong patient needs for blood have depleted Vitalant’s supply by nearly 50% since the start of summer, creating an emergency shortage in northeastern Ohio and across the country. As the Labor Day holiday weekend approaches, fewer blood donors are typically available, which is expected to make the situation worse. Nonprofit blood services provider Vitalant collects blood from volunteer donors to supply to several area hospitals including Cleveland Clinic and Summa Health.

All eligible donors are asked to schedule an appointment now for the coming days and weeks. To make an appointment, check to see if you’re eligible to donate, or find a blood drive near you, please visit vitalant.org or call 877-25-VITAL (877-258-4825). For more information, click HERE.
