Little Einsteins
Science with the Lions
Science has always been a favorite here in the Lion Room, so it's fitting that our last topic would be in science. We focused on the 5 Senses all month long, doing fun and exciting projects each week, covering a different sense. For sight we took a nature walk and looked at all of the beautiful surroundings at our school. For hearing we played all different instruments and talked about all the different sounds each made. Touch had us making different forms of slimy fun and feeling different textures around our room. We put taste and smell together and tried different foods at our picnic. Everyone had different opinions on what we ate, some liked one thing while others didn't, but they all gave things a try. Needless to say, it was a perfect last focus for our soon to be Pre-K children because not only did they learn about the 5 senses they learned that it's ok to be different and have your own opinions.

Mathematicians
Math with the Snugglies II
The babies in Snugglies II had a wonderful time learning this past year. These children are always exploring and are extremely excited to continue learning new things, some here in Snugglies and others in their new classrooms. Last month, the Snugglies were introduced to the PETE THE CAT series by Eric Litwin. These books were helpful with introducing colors and numbers. They love listening to the teachers read aloud, as well as following along when we play books on tape. One of their favorites was the story of “Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons.” They wiggle and dance along while learning to count down from 4, to 3, to 2, to 1, to zero. They also have fun showing their belly button in the end. We look forward to learning with more Pete the Cat stories!

Math with Chipmunks
During the month of June we began preparing for our big step up to Pre-K! The Chipmunks decided we should do a countdown from the first day of June. By doing this activity each day, we mastered our skills of counting backwards! We also learned all about our 5 Senses and incorporated this topic into our Math lesson. The children were introduced to ABB patterns. We asked them to choose two different senses that they wanted and introduced how to begin creating ABB patterns. For example, the children glued pictures on sentence strips to show “taste, smell, smell, taste, smell, smell.” They loved learning new patterns! They are excited to go to Pre-K and learn and grow more!
Little Picassos
Art with Puppies
As the school year for the Puppies draws to a close, we have been having as much fun as possible while getting ready for the summer months. We have been going to the outside playground a lot, having picnics and continuing to express ourselves through art by drawing with chalk all over the playground. All the Puppies gather along the gate and immediately ask for the chalk upon entering the playground. We talk to our Puppy friends about all the different colors we are using and ask what they are making. When walking by, make sure to take a peek at our Puppies’ masterpieces all along the floor, gates & slides!

Art with the Bumblebees
The Bumblebees love art! Painting and drawing are some of their favorite things to do. Throughout the month of June, the Bumblebees did numerous art projects. The Bumblebees got to create their own shapes, where we took different toys in the room and created different shapes using paint. We also mixed colors together to make new and different colors. The children loved mixing colors together and seeing what color they would get! It was a good way for us to talk about what our favorite colors are and what colors we could mix together to create our favorite colors. One of the Bumblebees favorite things to do is go to the Art Room. We love to talk about what we painted after we are finished. The children are all so creative!
Musicians in the Making
Music with Angels
Music always helps to makes learning more fun. This month we learned all about the xylophone. In the Music and Movement Room, there are some xylophones that we all took turns playing. We listened to the sound each bar on the xylophone made after we hit it with the stick. We also observed all of the different colors and sizes of the bars on the xylophone. Each bar on the xylophone made a different sound.

One day we were playing with the Beam Projector games in the Music and Movement Room, when we discovered that there was a giant xylophone game to play. Each child took turns stepping on the bars of the xylophone projected onto the floor and played their own song with it. The Angels also learned about the letter X and had the opportunity to make their own xylophones which are displayed in the classroom. We had so much fun making music and learning all about xylophones!

Music with Sunflowers
The Sunflowers are really gearing up for the Summer with some fun and interactive songs.
Every day the Sunflowers love to sing and dance during transition times in the classroom, and in the Gym where they have lots of room to move and groove. Each day they sing "Mr. Golden Sun" and they wave their arms in the air and spread joy and sunshine everywhere. Next is "Five Little Ducks." They act it all out with the lyrics, then they all cheer when Mama Duck finds all her Baby Ducks in the end. We especially love the "Sandpiper Song" where we pretend to run and play in the sand on the beach, and jump in the waves. Then each child has a turn being the plane flying high above. The Sunflowers all time favorite song is "Rainbow Fish." Each child chooses a color for their fish. Next, they think of words to describe their fish, for ex. big, small, fast swimmer, slow swimmer, fishy smelly, hungry, thirsty, etc. Then they put their two hands together and demonstrate how their fish is swimming.

Technology Tots & Athletes in Training

Gym and Tech with the Monkeys
Monkeys always fun when they visit the Specialty Rooms. They enjoy going to the Gym to play with the rollercoaster, riding bicycles, and cars. They also play with the gym balls and exercise with them. The Monkeys love to climb the rock wall as well, and are getting better and better at it. They happily watch their friends to see who will get to the top and are very good at taking turns with each other.

Another Specialty Room that our Monkeys like is the Music and Movement Room! They have so much fun trying out the different instruments and creating songs to sing and move to. They also get excited when we turn on the Beam. The Beam projects games and activities onto the floor! The teachers organize the children into small groups and they take turns playing the different games. One of their favorite games is soccer. They get so excited when they score a goal! The Monkeys practice good sportsmanship as they all cheer for their friends.
The Nurse's Station

As we welcome the arrival of summer and the warm weather, we will be spending more time outdoors. Below are just a few important reminders:

·       Please see the link to the Health Policy above.  It will provide detailed information as to when to child keep your child home and when to bring your child in.

·      If your child becomes sick while in our center, you will be called to pick them up. It is important to have an alternate plan if you are unable to come yourself.

·  During the summer months children should be kept hydrated at all times. Please don’t forget to pack a water bottle with your child’s name on it.

·        Please remember to apply sunscreen every morning with an SPF of 30 - 50. It is important not to forget the back of the neck, ears, nose and scalp. Please also bring in sunscreen so teachers can reapply in the afternoon.

·        Sunhats or caps are a wonderful shield from the sun, but please consider safety. Please be sure that hats or caps do not obstruct your child’s view.

·        Please make sure your child has swimwear/bathing suit, swim diapers, towel and appropriate footwear for water play. We recommend the children wear close-toed shoes.

CLASS QUOTES AND STORIES
Angels
Angels
Each day after nap the Angels pack up their cots and bring their sleep bags to the door. One child left their sleep bag in the wrong spot and Valentina picked it up and moved it by the door. What a great helper!

Bumblebees
While in the Art Room, Elora said, “Look Miss Danielle. I painted Mommy, daddy, me and my sister!”

Chipmunks
While making our yearbooks Miss Gina asked the children what they wanted to be when they grow up. Mateo said, "I want to be a Judge because a Judge talks to the governor!"

Lions
As we talked about moving to Pre-K the children were all very excited and asking all kinds of questions. Then they asked us what happens to the Lion Room? We said, "We will have new little Lions." Amelia said, "This is our Lion Room, you leave and come with us!" We told the children, “We wish we could keep you all with us. We will miss you all!!”

Monkeys
The teachers announced to the children that they were going to have snack outside. Christopher said, “Yeah! We are going to have a picnic.”

Sunflowers
One day while singing the Rainbow Fish, the Sunflowers waited to see who went first. Andrew was chosen. He said, “ My fish is orange and blue, and is super duper duper duper duper fast!!!"
