From the Desk of Mrs. Tiezzi
Dear St. Rita Parents/Guardians,
Thank you, St. Rita families for your generosity over the past few weeks with your donations to Raise Craze ($13,000+), Paint Hamden Pink ($800), the Diaperbank collection (2803 diapers) and the toiletries collection for the Little Sisters of the Poor (900 items). Your spirit and action of freely giving to others in everyday acts of kindness sets a positive example for your children. Thank you again for your support.
This Friday, the Knight of Columbus will be sponsoring a drive thru fried dough pizza dinner from 5:30-7:00 P.M. (or until it runs out!) in the school parking lot. You may take home delicious fried dough for $5.00 each. The Knights have been very supportive of St. Rita School over the years and it would be lovely if we can support them as they try to build community and raise funds for their many endeavors. The Knights thank you for your support.
Next Friday, October 29, we will celebrate Halloween at St. Rita School. In addition to Trunk or Treat in the evening, we have many fun activities planned during the school day for our students. Candy donations for Trunk or Treat are still being accepted and Mrs. Delaney is still looking for additional decorated cars to participate.
Next Friday, our 7th and 8th Graders will also participate in the annual High School Showcase. Area Catholic high school admissions directors will visit St. Rita and share with our students their options for Catholic high schools in the area.
Despite the weather getting colder, the students are still eating lunch outside, going outside for recess and gym class. Please be sure your child dresses in layers so he/she does not freeze when the weather is cold or sweat when the weather is warmer. Also, be sure to label your child’s clothing so if they lose it we can return the clothing to its rightful owner. The lost and found bin is located at the top of the gym stairs; please have your child check it if he/she is missing anything.
Finally, a number of parents have inquired as to why Chromebooks are not being sent home nightly with the students as we did last year. The answer is simple; we are trying to achieve more of a balance with student use of technology effectively while still fostering skills essential to life, like writing and reading. Currently teachers are using technology within the classroom more strategically as we try to move away from students being consumers of technology to students becoming creators of technology. We are also awaiting some direction from our central office (CCEF) to help move us in that direction correctly. Thank you for your understanding and support.
Thank you for entrusting your child/ren to our care. Enjoy the beautiful autumn weather and have a great week!
God Bless,
Mrs. Tiezzi
