Fall 2022 Worship Series: Searching for the Sacred
The way we see the world, relate to the world, live in the world and with each other has theological roots. In other words, what we believe about the holy, what we think is “sacred” or not, determines how we treat each other and creation.

Gather on Saturday, September 10, 2022
to Celebrate the Life and Ministry of
Rev. Philip Desenis
November 28, 1928 – June 24, 2022
“Rev.” lived an extraordinary life. Determined to make a difference in the wider community, he followed his call to ministry and served as an Associate Pastor at his first parish in Chicago, at St. Paul’s UCC where he found and married the love of his life, the Senior Pastor’s daughter, Joanne Grauer. His passion for serving the youth of the city led him to be highly involved with the youth gangs of the day, and with ministries of outreach and service.
He answered a call to pastor a newly merging church in Deerfield, IL and in1959 was the founding pastor of Trinity United Church of Christ – then only a vision in a forest that would later become 760 North Ave. With his creativity and dynamic personality, the church was thriving and with his expansive leadership, became a vital hub of the community.
Rev. served the church for 31 years, retiring in June 1990. He and Joanne raised three daughters there, welcomed grandchildren, extended family and hosts of members, friends and community leaders.
Join us on Saturday, September 10th at 2:00 P.M. to Give Thanks.
Reception and visitation with family to follow in the Gathering Hall.

Trinity's long-term Mission Project

As we all have heard, food pantries are experiencing a significant increase in the number of families who depend on local pantries as their primary source of food.
After some deliberation, and prayer, I am suggesting that Trinity United Church of Christ expand our annual program of collecting canned and dry foods for the West Deerfield Township Pantry from a few weeks’ duration to a continuous ministry.
The collection bin is in the Gathering Hall, with identifying signage. We will make a once-a-month delivery to the West Deerfield Township Pantry. The quantity, on a monthly basis, may not be as large as our once-a-year amount, but our goal is to assist the WDT Pantry maintain a more stable inventory, and have the ‘best-used-by date’ be more current.

When: Sep 13, 2022 07:00 PM Central Time (US and Canada)
Topic: Reducing the Plague of Gun Violence Here, There, Everywhere
Register in advance for this webinar:
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the webinar.
Gun violence and violence in general takes a huge toll every year; not only in lives lost and altered but in the trauma that lives on. On July 4th, there was a horrific mass shooting in Highland Park where 7 were killed and over 30 injured, and in Chicago that same day, 9 were killed and 52 injured. In light of these tragedies, the League of Women Voters of Lake County (LWV-LC) will sponsor a virtual forum on Tuesday, Sept. 13th, 2022 at 7pm central time, addressing what you can do as an individual working with public officials to reduce the plague of gun violence in your community, state, and America.
What you learn could help shape questions you may have for candidates in the coming election.
Registration is required. Attendees can submit a question in advance on their registration form. A zoom link will be sent.
