Greetings CTK members,

The Refreshing Our Joy, Our Church Home, Our Legacy Capital Campaign is underway. This past Sunday, August 25th, the congregation approved spending the $650,000 the campaign will raise. Thank you to everyone who took time out of their Sunday to participate. There was a healthy amount of good, meaningful conversation prior to a final vote. As an outcome of the affirmative vote, rain gutter replacement project will commence in the next several weeks.

The good news is we have already received cash or pledges totaling $195,850. Please prayerfully consider a pledge. It can be paid out over three years. Pledge cards are available in the church office, in the pews, or on the table at the back of the church. Pledge cards were also included with the brochure that was mailed to everyone last week. It’s REFRESHING to pledge.

*Pledges due by Oct 1, 2024

New Members received this Sunday

If you or someone you know want to be a member at CTK have them call the church office or come this Sunday.

CELEBRATING OUR CONNECTION TO COMMUNITY

Baby Fest

Reformation Lutheran Church in Milwaukee needs your help with their Baby Fest on October 19th. Diapers are very expensive, and mothers need to use disposable diapers for their children in childcare. Please consider helping Reformation Church and their neighbors by donating diapers, wipes, and pull- ups. Diapers in sizes 4- 6 are especially needed. If you would like Outreach to shop for you, please place a check in the offering made out to CTK with “Reformation Baby Fest” in the memo line.

Reformation’s neighbors are also in need of “gently used” clothing for babies, sizes 1-18 months, toddlers, all sizes, and children, up to size 18.

Our collection starts Sunday, September 1st and continues through Sunday, September 29th.

Thank you for helping Reformation Church and their neighbors.

Please contact Pam Kroening pam.kroening@gmail.com with questions.

CTK Outreach Supports local Elementary teachers

CTK Outreach supported staff at 4 local elementary schools to kickoff the new school year. They provided the baskets of goodies to Wales, Delafield, Dousman and Lake Country schools. Happy school year!

OUTREACH

This global outreach is helping farm families in the Meru Diocese in Tanzania. This project is giving the farmers a hand-up rather than a handout.

See the display in the Narthex for more information.

Rooted in Jesus: Fall Leadership Conference (10/14 - 10/16 @ Lutherdale)

Join us - on Monday evening, October 14th through midday Wednesday, October 16th at Lutherdale Bible Camp in Elkhorn - for a time of learning and renewal for faith leaders from our synod – including lay members and staff, council presidents, pastors and deacons!

In a time of uncertainty and division, our mission to look, live and love like Jesus Christ has never been more important. The Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers will help us to fulfill that calling by exploring the many ways our core ministries – evangelism, racial justice, authentic diversity, and compassionate conversation across difference – powerfully reflect the heart of God and the way of Jesus.

To learn more about Rev. Canon Spellers, and how to register for this event (and housing), please visit the event site.

Nurturing Awe: Spiritual Care for Children

Chaplain Cassidy Wohlfarth, Advocate Children’s Hospital

Children are born with inherent spirituality and connection to the transcendent. Instead of teaching children who or what is spiritual, teach vocabulary so they can share their experience of God/transcendent/sacred with you.

5 Ways to spiritually engage with children:

  1. Ask open ended questions about scripture/religious teachings. Children often sense when we are looking for a specific answer and strive to offer the ‘correct’ response and ignore their authentic understanding.
  2.  Allow for silence and know it’s OK if the child doesn’t have a spoken response.  Children may need more time to articulate. Adults often want to offer examples or restate a question when children don’t immediately respond.
  3. Engage in wondering with children. True wondering means being curious and open about what could be true. Wondering can be playful and silly, and wondering can create space for deep spiritual connection and meaning-making
  4. Explore ways to incorporate play into religious rituals and services. Inviting children to participate in sacred rituals or reenact them provides opportunities for children to feel a part of their spiritual community and add to their own sacred story
  5. Learn to look for awe in your own everyday life. Awe is defined as a feeling of reverential respect mixed with fear or wonder. Think of the way you feel when seeing a rainbow or being in a group all chanting in unison. Children feel awe everyday as they learn and experience new things. Being able to draw on your own spiritual awe can open communication with kids about their spiritual awe moments.
