From Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday, familiar faces and first-time visitors make the pilgrimage to Fourth Church to experience the passion and the joy of the Christian mystery.

During that holiest of weeks we need 100 ushers to extend hospitality and warmth in greeting, welcoming, and caring for all worshipers.

We are especially looking for first-time ushers to help on Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, Easter Vigil, or Easter Sunday. Ushers will be assigned to whichever tasks match their interests and comfort, whether it be distributing bulletins, greeting in the Narthex or Commons, or seating worshipers in the Sanctuary or Buchanan Chapel.

Might you consider serving at one of these services? If so, please contact Shawn Fiedler.

Your gifts to our Lenten One Great Hour of Sharing Offering touch the lives of those in need, respond to injustice, provide shelter, and feed the hungry, both here in our city and around the world.

Your gifts support

Presbyterian Hunger Program, which takes action to alleviate hunger, care for creation, and address the systemic causes of poverty so all may be fed

Self-Development of People, which partners with communities responding to their experiences of oppression, poverty, and injustice and educates Presbyterians about the impact of these issues

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, which works alongside communities as they recover and find hope after the devastation of natural or human-caused disasters and provides support for refugees

Chicago Lights Elam Davies Social Service Center, which annually supports 1,800 individuals who are experiencing homelessness or who are in transition, helping them gain greater stability through case management, a food pantry, clothing assistance, referrals to other agencies, and outreach

Chicago Lights Tutoring, which encourages 400 students living in under-resourced neighborhoods to graduate from high school and pursue higher education and meaningful careers

Fourth Church Meals Ministry, which distributes bag lunches each week, Tuesday through Thursday, and serves a hot supper on both Sunday and Monday nights, providing more than 36,000 meals per year for guests who are homeless

Fourth Church Shower Ministry, which welcomes guests without access to bathing facilities to use the showers at Fourth Church, with nearly 1,000 showers taken per year

To make a “One Great Hour of Sharing” gift, you can use the envelopes in the pew racks, write “Lenten Offering” on the memo line of a check made payable to Fourth Presbyterian Church, or make a gift online.

From contemplative prayer and the simplification of life, to death and dying, to the stories of Jesus’ life and ours we have a variety of conversation opportunities planned for the weeks and months ahead.

Practicing the Presence of God
Sundays, March 24–April 7
11:00 a.m.
in Room 5E

How might we be attentive to the presence of God in our everyday lives?

What insight might writers Joan Chittister, Annie Dillard, Denise Levertov, Gerald May, Mary Oliver, Joyce Rupp, and David Whyte offer us in this quest?

Beginning this Sunday join Vicky Curtiss in this exploration through the new Academy for Faith and Life course “Practicing the Presence of God.”

“Dying to Know” Series: Being Mortal
Wednesdays, April 3, May 22, June 19
2:30–4:30 p.m.

Join us for workshops created to take away the stigma of talking about death and dying. We will also work together to develop a sense of being in charge of our lives until the end.

Our monthly topics will help us focus on “Being Mortal,” “How to Share Your Health Care Wishes,” and “Candid Conversations.”

Register online for one or more of these sessions cohosted by the Replogle Center for Counseling and Well-Being, the Center for Life and Learning, Skyline Village, and the National Council of Jewish Women: Chicago North Shore Section.

How to Hear God Speaking Personally through the Gospels
Fridays, May–July
