Inverness E-Newsletter - June 10, 2022
Message from Mayor Jack Tatooles
This spring/summer, the Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways (CCDOTH) will be rehabilitating Roselle Road, from Palatine Road to Baldwin Road and Roselle Road, from Palatine Road to Euclid Road as two separate projects.

The projects include asphalt grinding of pavement, pavement patching, finishing the pavement surface by overlaying with asphalt, removing and replacing shoulder or curb and gutter, drainage adjustment, detector loops replacement, and new pavement markings. CCDOTH expects the project to be completed by October.

Throughout the duration of the project, traffic will be maintained via flagging and the use of other forms of traffic control and protection. Residents and motorists should expect delays.

Make sure to slow down when entering a work zone and watch for road workers.

Questions about this Cook County project should be directed to the County at 312-603-1601 or via email at [email protected].

Inverness Vacation Watch Program
The Inverness Police Department offers a free Vacation Watch program for residents who will be away from home. Officers will check your house daily for any signs of suspicious activity. The vacation Watch form can be downloaded here or you can stop by the Police Department or Village Hall to pick one up.

  • Before leaving on your summer trip, the Inverness Police Department suggests that you:
  • Have your mail forwarded to you, held at the post office, or arrange to have it picked up daily.
  • Cancel your newspaper delivery.
  • Avoid announcing that you will be away from home on social media.
  • Leave a phone number where you can be reached with one or more neighbors so you can be notified of an emergency.
  • Give your home that "lived-in" look by using timers for your lights and a radio. Vary the times they switch on and off. Never leave mail in a single central location, such as the kitchen table or countertop, where it can be seen and taken as an obvious sign that you are gone.
Septic Tanks: What to Put In, What to Keep Out
Here are some friendly pointers to help prevent overtaxing your septic field.

  • Put all wastewater from your home into the septic tank. This includes all sink, bath, shower, washing machine and dishwasher wastewaters, and toilet flushings.

  • Keep roof drains, basement sump pump drains, and other rainwater or surface water drainage systems away from the absorption field.

  • Do not use caustic drain openers for a clogged drain. Instead, use boiling water or a drain snake to open clogs.

  • Use potentially system-damaging commercial bathroom cleaners in moderation. Consider cleaning toilets, sinks, showers, and tubs with a mild detergent or baking soda.

  • NEVER put grease, disposable diapers, plastics, latex paint, pesticides, solvents, oven cleaners, degreasers, or any hazardous chemicals into your system.
