If you missed the After School Matters choir when they sang for our Noonday Concert series last Friday—or if you were there and are among those eager to hear this group again!—join us in worship this Sunday at 9:30 or 11:00 am.

The choir is made up of Chicago-area high-school teens who participate in the programs of After School Matters, a nonprofit organization that offers high-quality opportunities outside of school that enable youth to explore and develop their talents while gaining critical skills for work, college, and beyond.

We are delighted this vocal ensemble will be back to share their musical gifts with us during worship!

Beckie Menzie and Tom Michael return to Music by the Fountain this week!

An annual favorite in our outdoor concert series and a popular cabaret duo across Chicago, Beckie and Tom are sure to present a lively, engaging performance you won’t want to miss. Come enjoy the music and the beauty of summer!

The Strategic Directions task force would like to hear from you!

In particular, they would value your input on the following:

  • What areas of our mission or ministry would you like to see Fourth Church prioritize?

  • Into which of those areas would you would want to invest energy and emphasis?

  • Are there areas of our mission or ministry together that you would like to see reimagined?

On the first two Sundays of August the task force will be hosting two Strategic Directions conversations in order to provide opportunity to hear your thoughts. The task force will then use your input to help discern priorities for the next three to five years of our life together as a congregation.

Strategic Directions Conversations
Sunday, August 4 at 12:15 p.m.
in the Bumpus Room

Sunday, August 11 at 9:45 a.m.
in Borwell Dining Room

Are you unable to be with us for one of those conversations?

If you can’t be with us on either of those dates, please take a moment to email to priorities@fourthchurch.org your thoughts about your hopes and vision for our congregational priorities and areas of commitment.
This Sunday is another Market Day at Coffee Hour for the Chicago Lights Urban Farm.

If you have produce on your grocery list, bring your list to Coffee Hour!

Come browse the variety of fresh produce grown at the Farm and support with your purchase the youth education and workforce development programs that take place there.

You can also stop by the Farm (444 W. Chicago) on Saturdays between 10:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. to shop the produce at their Farmstand.
This evening at 5:30 p.m., Women at Fourth will be gathering to fill backpacks with school supplies for our Chicago Lights Summer Day students. All women are invited to come help with backpacks—and enjoy an ice cream social!

We continue to need school supplies for backpacks and for the Chicago Lights Tutoring program, so all can begin the school year well stocked with materials necessary for learning.

The list of needed supplies as well as volunteer opportunities is posted online. It is also available during Sunday morning Coffee Hour.

Donations can be dropped off at Coffee Hour as well or, on weekdays, at the reception desk.

Next Thursday, August 1 is the last day to register for our upcoming Vacation Bible School adventure , one that will take us back to ancient Athens with the Apostle Paul!

Each morning of August 5–9 Vacation Bible Schoolers will be following Paul’s travels throughout Greece and the Roman Empire. Along the way we will learn about God’s love and our call to be disciples. And, of course, there will be crafts, games in the courtyard, and all the other excitement that VBS always brings!

So if you haven’t yet registered your child for our annual week of VBS fun, be sure to do so today!

A week from this Sunday, on August 4, we are taking our weekly Jazz at Four Communion service outdoors to the Michigan Avenue courtyard again.

We will also worship outdoors on Sunday, September 1. During both of these services our jazz quartet will feature music from an African American jazz great.

August 4: Abbey Lincoln
September 1: John Coltrane

We hope you will join us by the fountain on these Sunday afternoons for a time of worship, the music of the Fourth Church Jazz Quartet, and fellowship with one another, all while surrounded by the beauty of summer!
Our 2019 summer Urban Youth Mission (UYM) program comes to a close next week.

Please join us in welcoming to Fourth Church our last groups of the summer: the youth from Harbor View Presbyterian Church of Charleston, South Carolina, and First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls, New York.

They will be arriving Sunday afternoon to spend a week with us, taking part in of our Urban Youth Mission (UYM) program, a time for service and learning about urban mission and ministry.

During their time with us, these youth will have opportunity to explore diverse city neighborhoods while performing valuable hands-on service and reflecting on God, faith, and the Christian call to justice. We look forward to partnering with them in mission!
Please join us in also welcoming the newest members of the Fourth Church family—those who were received into Fourth Church membership this month:

Abbie Allardt
Corinne Hartfield Harris
Jeff Husar
Daniel Johnson
Emily Merkel
Mark Stortz
Janet Vander Lee
