MadREP Report | February 2, 2022
MadREP and our partners at the Urban League of Greater Madison held our eighth annual Madison Region Economic Development & Diversity Summit last year. The videos from the event are posted in the agenda section of the event website for a limited time.

Be sure to participate in MadREP's crowd-sourced broadband project. The tool will show you what your current internet speed is while collecting necessary data for the Madison Region to pursue better broadband infrastructure in the areas identified as underserved. Please complete the brief speed test both at home and at work.

We are currently accepting applications for Main Street Bounceback Grants. The program provides financial support to businesses that move into vacant commercial properties, helping to create a foundation for long-term success for themselves and their communities. Submit your request for an application today!

As for the ongoing pandemic, while we're encouraged by Wisconsin's vaccine rollout, we would be remiss if we didn't remind you how important our individual behavior is on the road to economic recovery. Please take care of yourselves, practice social distancing and wear a mask. For the latest reopening and recovery resources, be sure to check the MadREP website often.
Whitewater, Wisconsin Recognized By Brookings as "Well Positioned for New Growth"
null

Authors John C. Austin, Amanda Weinstein, Michael Hicks, and Emily Wornell tell the story of “today’s reality of two Midwests.”

One is vibrant and rebounding headfirst into “global knowledge economy” while the other is languishing and struggling to attract or retain employers. New data published by the authors suggests quality of place investments may contribute more to building a healthy local economy than traditional investments to create a favorable business climate.

Their analysis of Midwestern communities revealed several smaller communities “well positioned for new growth.” Topping the list were Whitewater, Wisconsin, Celina, Ohio and Brainerd, Minnesota.

“Congratulations to our partners in Whitewater and Jefferson County! It’s great to see your hard work recognized by an organization like Brookings,” said MadREP CEO Jason M. Fields. “I, and my team, are looking forward to continuing to work together on the next phase of Whitewater’s chart-topping growth.”
