Preceding the Ash Wednesday 7:30 p.m. service, a hosted labyrinth walk will take place from 6:00 to 7:15 p.m. in Buchanan Chapel. Walking the labyrinth in the chapel takes about fifteen minutes and offers opportunity to begin your Lenten spiritual practice with prayer and reflection.
All are invited to join with us as we embark together on this season of reflection and renewal!

During Worship and throughout the Day
|
Part of our Ash Wednesday practice is the imposition of ashes.
Ashes serve as a sign of human mortality and penitence and as a reminder that only by God's grace are we given eternal life.
Ashes are imposed with the words of Genesis 3:19: "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return."
This year in addition to making the imposition of ashes available as part of the 12:10 and 7:30 p.m. services, they will also be available as part of 9:30 a.m. Morning Prayer in Buchanan Chapel and, for those unable to be with us for any of those services, throughout the day for those stopping by the Sanctuary.

Lenten Devotions
|
A Resource for Reflection This Season
|
The season of Lent calls Christians to embrace the faith journey by reflecting upon and deepening their relationship with God and by acting upon their Christian beliefs. During this season, we are invited to thoughtfully take up the gifts of faith--worship, study, prayer, and service--in preparation for Holy Week and Christ's journey to the cross.
As a resource for such Lenten reflections and personal prayer, we will be making available daily Lenten devotions, written by Fourth Church members and staff, beginning Ash Wednesday, February 14.
This year the Lenten devotions will take us on a journey through the Gospel of Mark, from beginning to end.
To receive them by email (if you are not already receiving our devotions), sign up at www.bit.ly/fpcdevotions (send email addresses to devotions@fourthchurch.org).
Devotions will be posted online as well and will be available in printed booklets in the church literature racks.
Another resource for Lenten spiritual disciplines is the "Path of Discipleship" series being offered on Tuesday evenings, beginning February 20. Registration for that weekly spiritual formation series closes this Sunday, February 11.

Three Weeks to Gala of Hope
|
On Friday, March 2 we will gather for a festive evening of dinner, dancing, and fabulous auctions as part of the 2018 Gala of Hope, a benefit to support the life-changing outreach work of Chicago Lights--and its programs of Tutoring, Summer Day, Urban Farm, Dance Academy, and Elam Davies Social Service Center--and the Replogle Center for Counseling and Well-Being. You can still get a ticket (or sponsor a table!) to attend the Gala----which will be held at the Radisson Blu Aqua. And, if you can't attend, you can get drawing tickets for the "Windy City Escapade" drawing (the winner need not be present at the Gala) or make a contribution to support our outreach programs. Learn more online or by stopping by Coffee Hour on Sunday!

Christian Spirituality
|
A New Adult Education Course
|
Spiritual, but not religious? In response to the growing interest in spirituality and skepticism about traditional religion, Carol Allen, former Associate Pastor for Congregational Life at Fourth Church, will lead us in a a survey of the history, interpretations, and traditions of spirituality in its Christian forms.
There will be time for participants, with the aid of particular questions and practices, to reflect personally upon their own spiritual formation and the religious traditions in which they were raised and how their hearts and minds may have changed over the years as their spirituality has grown and deepened.
