Business Meeting Sunday After Worship
Coordinating Council Nominees
As most of you are aware, Northminster’s bi-monthly business meetings have traditionally been held on the third Sunday evening every other month at 7:00 p.m. and are typically preceded by a potluck supper. However, during last month’s Coordinating Council meeting, in light of the fact we have a growing number of people who don’t live in the immediate Monroe/West Monroe area, we may achieve greater member participation in the business meetings if we had the meeting immediately following morning worship – this way, folks wouldn’t need to make two trips to the church in the same day.
We thought we would give this a try for our November business meeting, which is scheduled for Sunday, November 17th; the Coordinating Council felt this would be a good meeting to try the new time slot because this is the meeting where we’ll be voting on new Coordinating Council members for 2025. Immediately following worship, we’ll have a few more snacks than usual in the narthex, then we’ll reconvene in the sanctuary at 12:30 to begin the business meeting.
***There are six nominees for the Coordinating Council and we will be electing three of them to begin terms in January 2025:
-
Ann Aro - Ann and her husband Jay, along with their two children, have been a part of the Northminster family since 2021. Ever since walking in the door, she knew this place was home and wanted to contribute in anyway she could. She has been involved in teaching Sunday school and in Family Ministry. Ann was a teacher, but now cares for her family. She loves being outside on their little farm, gathering people together, and having a good project to work on daily.
-
Peggy Burns - Peggy, a retired registered nurse, has been a member of Northminster Church since 1990 and in the past has served the church on several commissions and committees, taught in Sunday School and served multiple times as the chair of and member of the Coordinating Council. As a former minister's wife she has a wealth of experience in the functional and spiritual workings of the church. Currently she serves on the Worship Commission and is a long time choir member. Peggy believes that Northminster Church is built on the strong spiritual principles that "every member is a minister" and we are called to love and accept people unconditionally, just as they are as Jesus taught us.
-
Susan Curry - Susan and her husband, Jimmy, are charter members of Northminster Church. In past years she has served on the Coordinating Council, many Commissions and worked tirelessly in the children and youth programs. Currently Susan serves on the Properties and Hospitality Commissions and teaches in the youth department. She has always held an active role with the children and youth of Northminster. Susan is an interior decorator, loves theatre and caring for personal pets and frequently unwanted animals around the parish.
-
Pat Hayes - Pat has been a member of Northminster Church since 2019. She has served faithfully in the choir since joining and for several years on the Family Ministries Commission. She is always willing to serve in any capacity of the church. Pat is a retired nurse and enjoys her flea market booth, doing various crafts, working in community theater, and thrifting, especially for special needs. Pat has worked on ad hoc committees at Northminster including bylaws revision and racial justice. Pat worked with the immigrant detainee population from 2019 through 2023 through LaAID and Northminster's mission support.
-
Jennifer Kimble - Jennifer has been a member since 2021. She serves on the Education Commission, teaches in the children's department and co-coordinates the youth group. She is a math interventionist and STEM coordinator at Crawford Elementary in Bienville Parish. She is married to Brandy and they stay busy raising their large family.
-
Barbara Thompson - Barbara joined Northminster in 2003 and has been heavily involved in the life of the church ever since. She served for years as a faithful Care Group Leader and continues today to be a caregiver to all at Northminster. She has served on the Coordinating Council and on numerous commissions, currently serving on Hospitality. She has also been the Membership Secretary for the church. Barbara, a former Navy nurse, is a CPA and has served as Chairman of the Board of the Wellspring and has volunteered in other non-profits in the Monroe area. She enjoys reading, exercising, playing with her grandchildren and beading. She is married to Lowery, a retired neurologist.
The Coordinating Council hopes you will be as excited about this new option as we are! We look forward to seeing you in worship and at the business meeting on Sunday, November 17th!
***Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend Business Meetings. However, only affirmed members of the church are eligible to vote on candidates or any other church business requiring a vote.

FALL RETREAT PAYMENTS NEEDED
Unfortunately a couple of you ended up not attending or not attending for as long as you’d originally planned. While we empathize with that because of the weather, changes could not be made to our numbers after the retreat started. The church will need to be reimbursed even if you didn’t attend. We hope you understand, but if you have questions please contact Pastor Jillian.
This is your reminder that payment is due to the church for the Fall Retreat. You may pay by check, PayPal (if you need to use a credit card), or payment plan. Rates are posted below. If paying cash, please place in an envelope marked "Retreat" with the names of those you are paying for. Checks should be make payable to Northminster Church and memo lined "Retreat". Please drop payments in the offering plate or on Renee's desk. You may also use our PayPal portal, especially if you need to use a credit card as the church does not have a credit card machine. Be sure and notate on PayPal that payment is for the "retreat."

AFTER CHUCH FELLOWSHIP

Please, NO items with icing or "gooey" stuff. This is getting into our rugs and embedded into the concrete floors.
