Dear colleagues,
As you know, efforts are being made to bring Afghan refugees to Canada. Most worked for the Canadian military as interpreters or in another capacity and are in danger in Afghanistan.
A chartered flight is arriving in London today with 200 Afghan refugees from Islamabad. Would any of you be willing to take on a family or two into your practice? Most families will have at least one person fluent in English as most were interpreters.
They will initially be housed at a hotel on Exeter Road. Our Newcomer Clinic will have a nurse-led clinic there for a month as refugees settle and get housed. After the first month, initial and immediate medical needs would be looked after through the Newcomer Clinic. Accepting physicians can receive records from the Newcomer Clinic.
If you are interested, please let us know how many families you are able to accommodate by emailing Carol Watt at cwatt@lihc.on.ca
Thanks so much for considering this. Please see more information about the Newcomer Clinic if you are interested.
