Voting on the Housing Proposal
This Sunday, May 6 we will gather for a congregational meeting at 12:00 p.m. in the Sanctuary.

This meeting has been called by Session for the purpose of voting on the recommendation from Session and the Board of Trustees that Fourth Church acquire a new manse for the use of our current and future senior pastors.

The proposal was mailed to all member households on April 12. Members are encouraged to read it and come to the meeting prepared to vote on the proposal: to continue the legacy of providing housing for the senior pastor of Fourth Church now and into the future.

A Sunday Morning Class Beginning May 6
A new Academy for Faith and Life adult education class begins this Sunday at 11:00 a.m.: "Race: The Power of an Illusion."

Through the video series by that same name we will learn about the contradictory assumptions and myths we believe about race. We will also examine the underlying social, economic, and political conditions that disproportionately channel advantages and opportunities to white people.

After each video presentation, Vicky Curtiss, Associate Pastor for Mission, and Robert Crouch, Director of Volunteer Ministry, will facilitate discussion as we seek to learn how to build a more just and equitable society.

sixThe Confession of 1967
A Sunday Morning Class Also Beginning May 6
The 1960s were a tumultuous time in the United States. The social change and political drama unfolding on the national stage caused believers and disbelievers alike to question what they had known for centuries. How were Christians to respond to the civil rights movement, the Vietnam War, controversies surrounding biblical interpretation, and more?

The United Presbyterian Church (USA) responded by adopting a new affirmation of faith, as well as a Book of Confessions dating back to the Apostles' and Nicene Creeds. The words of the Confession of 1967 shed light on the challenges of faithful living in our own day.

Join Jeff Doane, Parish Associate for Older Adults, in discussing their insights, which continue to guide our journey as followers of Christ in this new era of Christian discipleship.

Time:
      Sundays, May 6-20
      9:30 a.m.

Place:
      Room 5E

And Celebration of Officers Concluding Terms
New officers elected by the congregation during the Annual Meeting in February will be ordained and installed this Sunday during 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. worship.

Among them will be Elders, who will serve on Session, the church's governing body, which meets monthly to conduct the business of the church; Trustees, who are elected by the congregation to manage Fourth Church's financial and physical resources; and Deacons, who are often described as "the heart of the church," those involved in the care of the congregation and various outreach ministries.

Join us this Sunday in congratulating them--and in also thanking for their commitment to this church those officers who are concluding their term of service this spring. They have given much of their time and talents to this congregation over the past three years, for which we are deeply grateful!

New Minister for Evangelism
Joe Morrow joined the Fourth Church staff this past Tuesday as Minister for Evangelism. He will be filling that role and serving as the primary pastor for the Jazz at Four service for the next two years.

Joe, who most recently served as Campus Engagement Manager for Interfaith Youth Core and prior to that was Youth Director at Edgewater Presbyterian Church, is also the chair of the Presbyterian Mission Agency Board of the Presbyterian Church (USA).

We are excited to have Joe with us. As you see him in the weeks ahead, please greet him and extend a warm Fourth Church welcome!

Please Help Us Meet Our Mother's Day Goal!
Thanks to the generosity of many, we have passed the halfway mark to our May 13 goal of collecting 10,000 individually packaged snack items for Fourth Church Meals Ministry.

These snacks are used to fill the lunch sacks distributed to guests of our Bag Lunch program in Anderson Hall each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday noon.

Particularly needed are single servings of granola bars, chips, pretzels, fruit cups, and applesauce.

Donations (labeled "Meals Ministry") can be dropped off at the reception desk, and information is also available on Sunday mornings during Coffee Hour.

Thank you for helping to feed our neighbors in need!
