A Reflection on Stewardship
from Chip Monroe

Beginning this new season of stewardship at St. Mary’s, let us be reminded that “All things come of Thee, O Lord, and of Thine own have we given Thee.” As we prayerfully consider our family’s pledges this year, I encourage us to perhaps reframe the way we’ve thought about stewardship in the past. Meeting our parish’s and the community’s varied financial needs is important but allowing our pledges to reflect and deepen our connection with God could be an even larger and more meaningful purpose.

A Season of Faithful Giving

Over the next couple of weeks, we'll hear from members of our Vestry as they reflect on the role of stewardship in their life and journey in faith. We invite you to join in that reflection too, and to join in making a financial pledge to St. Mary of the Hills for 2022, on or before Sunday, October 24. Pledge cards are available in the pew racks and will be mailed in the coming week; a pledge card is also available online at www.stmaryofthehills.org/stewardship

The Feast of St. Luke
and the Blessing of Hands

October 17, 2021
5:00PM

On Sunday evening at 5:00PM, a celebration of the Holy Eucharist will be offered on the eve of the Feast of St. Luke, including the Blessing of Hands for all those who work in the medical profession. St. Luke is best known as an Evangelist as tradition tells us that he penned the Gospel bearing his name and the Acts of the Apostles; we also know that he was a physician and he is the patron saint of many whose vocation is in the ministry of healing. Join us on Sunday evening, October 17th, at 5:00PM. All are welcome, and most especially those who work in the medical field.

Daughters of the King Meeting – The St. Mary of the Hills Daughters of the King chapter will meet this Sunday in the Close at 9:00AM. They will be studying the Gospel for the Feast of St. Luke. Daughters of the King is an order of women dedicated to prayer, service and evangelism. For more information about DOK, please contact Michelle Curry at currymichelle@yahoo.com.
Join a Bread of Life Team

25 years ago St. Mary’s started the Bread of Life Program with one team serving one dinner a month to Hospitality House. Hospitality House is a shelter serving a seven-county area of the High Country which includes Watauga County. Approximately 20 to 30 meals were served. In 2021 over 6,000 meals will be prepared by 5 teams. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Bread of Life teams have continued to serve the community by dropping off meals or purchasing meals from F.A.R.M. Café’. The need continues to grow and more volunteers are needed and welcomed to join a team. It is one day per month, a small time commitment that serves so many. It is truly an act of love. Please contact Sue Wilders (828-355-9751) or the parish office (office@stmaryofthehills.org) and we will connect you with a team leader.
