FEBRUARY IS AMERICAN HEART MONTH
Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States. The term “heart disease” refers to several types of heart conditions. In the United States, the most common type of heart disease is coronary artery disease (CAD), which can lead to heart attack. February is American Heart Month, a time when all people can focus on their cardiovascular health. This year the Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention is shining a light on hypertension (high blood pressure), a leading risk factor for heart disease and stroke. Please visit the CDC’s Heart Disease webpage for useful toolkits and extensive resources to share.

NATIONAL CHILDREN’S DENTAL HEALTH MONTH
Developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children to get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums. This is a great time to check in with children and parents about dental health and to make sure that they’re looking after their smiles.

HEALTH FIRST COLORADO COVERAGE OF AT-HOME COVID TESTS
Health First Colorado, the Colorado Medicaid program, will pay for at-home COVID-19 tests for members effective Jan. 15, 2022. Each enrolled Health First Colorado member can get up to 15 free at-home tests per month from pharmacies that serve Health First Colorado. There is no out of pocket cost or co-pays for Health First Colorado. Health First Colorado will reimburse the pharmacies after members receive the free tests.
Health First Colorado members must get the tests from a Health First Colorado enrolled pharmacy. Health First Colorado cannot be reimbursed for at-home tests they may have already purchased.
Currently, there is a shortage of at-home tests and pharmacies have the discretion to limit how many tests they will provide customers at one time - such as a parent wanting to receive a month’s worth of tests for each member of his/her family at one time. The Biden Administration has ordered 500 million tests be made available nationwide by early February.
The Health First Colorado webpage has more information on the at-home test program, enrolled pharmacies and FAQs that will be updated as new questions arise.

UPDATE ON MONOCLONAL ANTIBODY TREATMENTS: SUPPLY LIMITED
Per Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE): Colorado’s supply of therapeutic treatments, including monoclonal antibody therapy and oral antivirals, is determined at the federal level. As of January 2022, the federal government is supplying an extremely limited quantity of these medications, significantly impacting the frequency at which we are able to provide them. We are hopeful that the supply of monoclonal antibody treatment and oral antivirals will ramp up significantly in the coming months.
For more information about therapeutic treatments, call the CDPHE hotline at 1-877-CO VAX CO (1-877-268-2926).
