Inclusion Canada on the new Canada Disability Benefit

This past Tuesday, the Honourable Carla Qualtrough tabled Bill C-35, legislation that introduces a new Canada Disability Benefit. Inclusion Canada is one of many disability rights groups who have called for the development of such a benefit. In this video, Inclusion Canada Executive Vice President, Krista Carr, explains the importance of Bill C-35, what it could mean for the disability community and what to expect for next steps .

Inclusion Canada has created a one-pager detailing what we think should be included in the Canada Disability Benefit. We need your help in influencing the design of the benefit. Find out how you can help us advocate to your elected officials by reading our position on who should qualify for the benefit and how much the benefit should be for.

Inclusion Canada hosts side event on Deinstitutionalization at the UN's Conference of State Parties (COSP)

Every year, the United Nations holds an event called the Conference of the States Parties (COSP). COSP is a gathering of all the countries who have signed and agreed to follow the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). This year, Inclusion Canada joined Inclusion International and People First of Canada to host a side event. Titled "Deinstitutionalization: Canada's Experiences & Lessons Learned," the event featured lived experience perspectives from members of the Joint Task Force on Deinstitutionalization followed by a short Q&A. The event was well attended with over 170 participants from 16 countries.

We would like to extend a special thank you to Ambassador Bob Rae, Permanent Representative of Canada to the United Nations, who provided opening remarks and participated in our Q&A,

Looking for feedback: Federal Government's Proposed Disability Inclusion Action Plan

The government of Canada is seeking feedback on how to improve the lives of people with disabilities in Canada. By participating in this survey before August 31, 2021, your feedback will support the development of a Disability Inclusion Action Plan, which will focus on addressing issues such as poverty, employment, and access to federal programs and services. We encourage everyone to take a few minutes and fill out the survey. Please encourage your friends and families to do the same. Let's shape the development of this new plan with an inclusion perspective!
