Forty leaders from across the state spent two days in Salina last week as part of Leadership Kansas. They visit different communities every month to learn about the strengths and vulnerabilities they face. The group stayed in downtown Salina and was able to experience the positive impact artists and the arts have on the community.
The visit served as an excellent reminder of how creative people and the arts and culture organizations add vitality to the community. Three of the members ordered tickets for upcoming Stiefel Theatre performances, while others talked about coming back for an extended visit to see all there is to see in town. One member even got online with her husband and looked at available houses!
Actors, dancers, visual artists, musicians, writers, designers, and other creatives are energizing this place in so many important ways. We are blessed to live in a community that takes pride in its work and contributes to celebrating the artistic and cultural heritage that defines Salina.
Thanks to everyone who creates, patronizes, volunteers, and advocates for a healthy arts community. (And we are just getting started!)
