RABBI KENTER'S DVAR
“Geshem Siman Livracha”/“Rain in a sign of blessing”

It’s allegedly good luck if it rains on someone’s wedding day, but is it good luck when it rains in your sukkah? We were blessed with two amazing evenings in our sukkah, immediately followed by rain for the next two days. Come Tuesday, we will, in fact, start praying for rain (in Israel) as rain is essential for the wellbeing of both the flora and fauna of the land. Rain and water are critical to any community’s success, which is why our ancestors taught us that “rain is a sign of blessing.”

But along with our prayers for rain, we should be as thoughtful about water access, which is perhaps the modern equivalent of the ancient prayer for rain. Without drinkable water, a community cannot exist and thrive. So along with our prayers for rain, let us also commit to do all we can to assure that all communities in Canada as well as abroad have access to the water that they need. That way we can make sure that water can continue to bless all of our communities in 5782.

Shabbat Shalom

There are many blessings that happen in all of our lives such as the birth of a child, grandchild, or great-grandchild; the engagement or marriage of a loved one; or a promotion at work or a volunteer award.  These events lend balance to times of sadness, such as the death or illness of a loved one. We at Kehillat Beth Israel are grateful for the opportunity to share these moments with you - to be a source of community in both times of celebration and times of sorrow.  Below you will find some of the events in our community from the last few weeks. Please continue to share with us your happy occasions so that we may share them here in the future.

We are so thankful for your continued contributions that allow us to grow and thrive. Todah Rabbah!
