The annual Peace March in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. took place at HEIGHTS on Friday, January 14, 2022. Every class marched through the hallways and took a turn around the playground, carrying hand-crafted messages of peace. Students wore clothing featuring hearts, peace signs, or kind messages. Students in Ms. Noreen Naughton’s fifth grade class at EAST HILLS ELEMENTARY SCHOOL participated in a fun holiday project right before the break. It was called the Gumdrop Bridge STEM Challenge. “Students were tasked with designing a functional bridge, using only gumdrops and toothpicks, that could hold one pound,” said Ms. Naughton. “They really enjoyed the challenge and many built successful bridges!”
Each month, HARBOR HILL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL selects a Book of the Month for the whole school to read. The latest selection titled, "I Promise," by Lebron James—is a lively and inspiring picture book that teaches students that tomorrow’s success starts with promises made today. The story follows a diverse group of children and encourages them to be resilient, respectful, imaginative, and true to themselves. To complement the book, the windows of the breezeway were decorated with student's handwritten hopes and promises for 2022.

The winning design was constructed by head engineer Bella Rice, along with group members Luke Rice, Skye Housenbold and Josh Kaftol.
RHS STUDENTS SWIM
WITH THE SHARKS

On January 12-13, 2022, aspiring student entrepreneurs at ROSLYN HIGH SCHOOL pitched their business concepts to the Roslyn Sharks—a group of local community members with business experience—in hopes of receiving valuable advice and financing. Nine INCubator teams and eight ACCELerator teams participated, comprised of 69 students. The INCubator students develop their own product or service and learn how to build a business, while the ACCELerator students work through customer acquisition, the business process, and product development to launch their company into the marketplace. Both classes offer students a real entrepreneurship experience. Read more...

Each month the Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Committee comes up with an idea for the Roslyn Middle School bulletin board. This month, they created the "Take What You Need" board and encouraged students and staff to take a positive affirmation for themselves, or to give to someone else, to serve as a reminder to look at the bright side of things. Each message contains a boost of encouragement, with themes related to confidence, hope, joy, kindness, love, forgiveness, patience, peace and self-esteem. The board was a great success; by the end of the month nearly all the messages were gone!
