"Al Fresco in the Hills" Outdoor Dining Program and Local Patios Are Now Open
The Town continues to accept applications for the “Al Fresco in the Hills” temporary outdoor dining initiative, designed to support eligible local restaurants, bars and other food and drink establishments by expanding their dining capacity, while adhering to public health regulations and COVID-19 safety guidelines.

Free COVID-19 Rapid Screen Kits Available for Local Businesses
The Halton Hills Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the Town of Halton Hills, is distributing free rapid self-screening kits for local businesses with up to 150 employees.

The goal of the program is to identify asymptomatic or pre-symptomatic individuals and prevent the spread of COVID-19 in the workplace, at home, and throughout the community.
Community Improvement Plan Update and Background Discussion Report
At the June 18 Council meeting, Halton Hills’ Town Council received a Community Improvement Plan (CIP) Project Status Update, along with the Background Discussion Report.

The CIP is one of the Town’s key tools for supporting local businesses and redevelopment by encouraging revitalization and private sector investments.

A comprehensive review and update of the Town’s CIP commenced in late 2020 to build on the existing program’s strengths and successes, as well as explore potential additional tools and incentives to encourage impactful community improvements.

The update is anticipated to be completed prior to the end of 2021.

Green Development Standards V3 Builds on Town's Success with Climate Change Initiatives
On June 14, Halton Hills Council adopted Version 3 of the Town’s Green Development Standards (GDS) applicable to all developments and major additions subject to an Official Plan and/or Zoning By-law Amendment, Draft Plan of Subdivision, or Site Plan Control approval.

The GDS V3 builds on Halton Hills’ record of success with climate change initiatives and brings the standards into greater alignment with current best practices and the Town’s Climate Emergency Declaration. The updated standards increase the sustainability of new developments while proving flexibility for a wide range of development types.
Federal Government Launches Online Wage Subsidy Calculator and Canada Recovery Hiring Program Applications Now Open
The new Canada Recovery Hiring Program (CRHP) provides eligible employers with a subsidy of up to 50% of incremental remuneration paid to eligible active employees between June 6, 2021 and November 20, 2021.

In order to help employers easily calculate and apply for either the new CRHP or the existing Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy (CEWS), the Canada Revenue Agency has also launched an online calculator that integrates the two programs and shows applicants which subsidy will provide them with more support, based on the information entered.
