Dear Parents,
By tradition, the Catholic Church dedicates each month of the year to a certain devotion. The month of October is dedicated to the Rosary, one of the best known of all Catholic devotions. October includes the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary (October 7). One of the best ways to celebrate the month is to pray the rosary together as a family. In celebration of this month, we are offering two opportunities to pray the rosary together as a school and parish family.
Parishes in the diocese will be praying the Rosary on October 17th. At St. Brigid, Family First will be offering a virtual Rosary to unite our parish family prayers with our larger diocesan family. All St. Brigid families are invited to join us in this holy prayer at 7:00 pm. Please see the story below for more details.
On October 20th at 2:00 pm, our school family will be praying the rosary together virtually. If you wish to join at home or at work, please log into your child’s Google Account. Locate Google Meet by clicking on the waffle in the top right-hand corner. Type the word prayer in the box labeled “Join a meeting”.
As a special treat this year and to have some Fall Fun, we are allowing students to wear costumes to school on Thursday, October 28th. Face masks must be worn and may be incorporated into the overall costume if your children would like to do this. Masks can be a way of expressing creativity, honoring a hero, making a statement about a favorite food, athletic team, book character, etc. For example, if your child is going to dress as a cow, the mask could be white with black spots, or if your child is going to be a princess, the mask could have sparkles or sequins as part of the design.
In place of a costume, students may choose a fall color dress down day, or they may wear sweatshirts or t-shirts recognizing their favorite athletic team’s colors or logos. Please see the story below for the full Fall Festival Costume Guidelines.
This coming Friday, October 15th will be Spirit Day! All students and staff are invited to enjoy a dress-down day and wear Saint Brigid spirit wear, Saint Brigid colors, or spirit wear for their favorite college or professional sports team.

Fall Festival Costume Guidelines |
As a special treat this year and to have some Fall Fun, we are allowing students to wear costumes to school on Thursday, October 28th. Please follow these costume guidelines:
- Make them simple, easy to wear all day, and not too hot or cold.
- Face masks that cover the entire face and/or head (examples-Spiderman, clown, skeleton, etc.) are not allowed, but instead feel free to decorate or choose a color of a daily mask that will enhance your costume.
- Inflatable costumes will not be allowed.
- Please limit accessories (like wings, crowns, wands) that will be difficult to handle at school, or could be lost or broken.
- Violent props such as pistols, knives, or swords are not permitted.
- Costumes may not have scary/bloody masks/clothes.
- Costumes may not obstruct the student’s view or ability to do work in the classroom.
- Costumes may not be inappropriately revealing, such as shorts skirts, bare midriffs, or low cut tops.
- Costumes may not be offensive or make a political statement in any way.
- Please no make-up
Please check your child’s costume or dress-down day outfit, and make sure they are following the guidelines. Thank you!

Wolfhounds Focus on Care of Creation |
This year, the Office of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Columbus asked each of our schools to establish a Creation Care Team. These teams will work to put forth school-wide initiatives to ensure that our students learn what each of us can do to care for the great gift of God’s creation. Our Creation Care Team has three major areas of focus for this semester, and we would like you to join us!
We are recommitting ourselves to the careful recycling of all milk cartons and water bottles. We do a great job here recycling used paper, and we want to do an equally great job when it comes to our milk cartons and plastics. Also, we are beginning our commitment to recycle all used batteries, from AAA, AA, C, D, etc. Students are invited and encouraged to bring used batteries to school and place them in our battery recycling bins. Batteries cause serious issues in landfills, as they contain chemicals and acids that eventually leaks out into the soil as the batteries corrode. Also, by recycling batteries, we are reusing materials that can easily be made into new batteries. We invite you to please join our effort to care for creation, and we look forward to sharing further initiatives with you throughout this school year.

Please remember that students in grade 4 and up can’t order a salad for lunch if they arrive to school after 9:00 am.

Barn Bash: Ticket Ordering and Donation Sign Up - Price Increase Friday |
Barn Bash is coming up on Friday, October 22 from 6-8:30 PM at Leeds Farm in Ostrander, Ohio.
All are invited to attend this fun night for families! The price is $11 per person by October 15, or $15 per person after October 15 and at the door. Children 2 and under are free. The price includes: beverages, pre-packaged snacks, family activities, fun and games and a DJ!

Squid Game: A Reminder to Monitor Children's Content |
With the popularity of several Mature-rated shows popping up, it is a good reminder to always be monitoring the content your children are viewing on devices, and to talk with your children about content they may be exposed to from other children's devices (such as on the bus or at friends' homes, for example). Squid Game is a new popular show on Netflix that is rated Mature, which means it may not be suitable for ages 17 and under. Common Sense Media reviews the show as appropriate for ages 16 and older due to graphic violence and graphic sexual activity. Because of the popularity of this show, it has also crossed over into popular children's gaming sites such as Roblox.
Common Sense Media, a nonprofit organization, is a great tool for parents to help review and judge the appropriateness of media for kids and families.

The Annual Fund is a once-a-year contribution that covers the costs of after-school programs, school performances, field trips, and activities organized by the Saint Brigid of Kildare Home & School Association. Home & School is funded entirely by contributions made to the Annual Fund. With your $100 per student Annual Fund contribution, 100% of every dollar raised goes directly to school projects and activities that enrich the learning experience for our children.

Flu Vaccines Available for Students and Staff - Thrusday, 10/14 |
We are happy to be able to offer Flu Vaccines at school again this year!
Partnering with Health Heroes of Ohio the vaccine will be available to students grades K-8 as well as school staff on October 14.
If you are interested, please read the Vaccine Information Statement as well as print and complete the Vaccine Consent Form to register your student for the vaccine. Completed Vaccine Consent Forms must be returned to the school office early October 14. Be certain to carefully complete the insurance information!

Recess Volunteers - Now Accepting Kindergarten Volunteers |
Volunteering at recess is a great way to become involved at St. Brigid! Volunteers are needed to assist teachers and to manage playground equipment. Volunteers should sign in the main office, obtain a volunteer badge then report to the playground. Please follow all school COVID-19 protocols. In the event of inclement weather, recess will be indoors with their teachers and volunteers will not be needed.
All volunteers must be PCG (Protecting God’s Children) compliant and have completed the St. Brigid volunteer application. In the event you can not fulfill your shift, please contact Jennifer Glatz at [email protected].

Celebrate The month of the Holy Rosary with a St. Brigid of Kildare Virtual Family Rosary (hosted by Family First) October 17th @ 7:00pm!
October is the month of the Holy Rosary, which the Church celebrates with fervor and holiness. It is the perfect prayer to bring peace to the world. To celebrate, parishes in the diocese will be praying the Rosary on October 17th! At St. Brigid, Family First will be offering a virtual Rosary to unite our prayers with others in the diocese. All St. Brigid families are invited to join us in this holy prayer at 7:00 pm. We hope you can join us!
You may sign up to attend OR please volunteer your family to lead a decade! Prayers and reflections will be screen-shared live over Zoom and Family First will follow up with additional details several days before the event. It is OK to lead while still learning!
Pop onto the zoom at 6:50 PM to put your intentions in the chat, work through any technical details that may arise, and say hello to other families! Rosary will begin promptly at 7 PM. We're looking forward to "seeing" you there! Kiddos in pajamas expected and celebrated!

Advent by Candlelight - Save the Date |
Advent by Candlelight is an evening for women to gather together and listen to an inspiring speaker as she helps rekindle our souls to the spiritual significance of the Advent and Christmas Seasons.
Our theme this year is “Love”. Join Meg Hunter-Kilmer, Catholic speaker, writer, and self named “Hobo for Christ” as she helps us prepare our hearts this Advent for Christ’s Love coming down at Christmas.
Meg will join us for two nights on the evenings of November 19th and 20th. Please consider inviting your friends to this special event and possibly hosting a table. Table hostess duties include: reserving a table for you and up to 6 guests, decorating your table, and inviting your guests to bring wine, small appetizers, and desserts to share at your table. If you are not able to host a table, no problem, invite a friend(s) and sit at one of our open tables!

This year, the eighth grade class will help us all find opportunities to care for the needy in our community, especially needy children. This quarter, the eighth grade students invite you to participate in our new and gently used book drive to benefit the Christ Child Society. Did you know that 61% of low income families in the US have no children’s books at all? We can help to change that!
We will be collecting books in homerooms from Monday October 25 - Thursday October 28. Books should be appropriate for ages infant - age seven. The Christ Child Society hopes to support the Layette Program, which provides care packages to hospitals with newborns in need, the Crib Club at the Women’s Care Center, and Saint Stephen’s Learning Center. They will also be partnering with Reach Out and Read Columbus which provides books to the 13 Children’s Hospital Pediatric Clinics in Columbus. This is all part of a national effort to put 100,000 books into the hands of children who need them. We hope to have the support and help of all of our Saint Brigid families!
In December, please watch for announcements detailing our December toy drive. During Lent, we will hold a food drive for our local food pantry. In April, we will again support Bottoms Up Columbus with our second annual diaper drive. Thank you for all of your help as we work to put into action our lessons on the dignity of human life and our responsibility to care for the poor, the vulnerable, and those in need, especially children who do not have the blessings and resources that we all have. We also ask you to join us in intercessory prayer for all those in our community whose needs are great and crosses are heavy. Thank you for your help and support!

Vocations Luncheon for Young Men |
On Tuesday, November 2 the Serra Club is hosting their first Young Men’s Vocation Luncheon since the Pandemic. The event will be held at The Jessing Center at the Pontifical College Josephinum. Fr. Bill Hahn will be the host and speaker.
The Vocation Luncheon agenda follows:

- Lunch – 11:45
- Welcome from Fr. Bill Hahn, Director of Vocations for our Diocese will be our host and speaker – 12:20

St. Charles Informational Meetings |
St. Charles Preparatory School will be hosting a series of casual informational meetings all around the greater Columbus area in September and October. Parents and guardians of young men in 6th, 7th or 8th grade are encouraged to join for an opportunity to learn more about St. Charles from other current families!

Winter Sport Registration |
Basketball for 4th-8th grade girls & boys continues. Player Evaluations for 7th/8th grade competitive teams, and then forming of the 4th-8th rec teams will start in the first week of November. Registration fees will be $190 for the upcoming season with additional gym space rental now needed with our number of teams. Please remember after you register each child at https://www.gowolfhounds.com, you must also provide the Parent Consent for the Columbus Diocese at https://www.dioceseregister.com
Lil' Hounds Basketball for 2nd & 3rd grade girls and boys will again be held this winter. Teams will have weekly clinics with their classmates to learn skills and have fun games. Clinics will normally start in December, it's a great way to get out and work on those basketball skills with your friends. Cost for Lil' Hounds is $85. Register at https://www.gowolfhounds.com

New this year is Cheer for 4th-8th grade girls. Practice will be once a week (likely Wednesdays) for 1 hour, and the Cheer season will be the length of basketball season. Registration for Cheer will close up on October 13th at noon to allow for uniforms to be ordered. Please get registered before it closes.
