GLOBAL SCHOOL PLAY DAY!
Feburary 2, 2022

Helloooo!

I am excited to share with you information regarding Global School Playday! Play is valued and honored!

What: A day of play! Pure joy for any child! See the link below for more insight and why this special event occurs annually.

When: Wednesday, February 2, 2022 9-2:45 followed by a Founder’s Day Celebration at 2:45

How we do it at Riley: The primary goal is children playing and adults joining and watching and learning but not structuring or directing.
Children can bring their outside toys from home and be ready to play!(no
electronics) Due to Covid spacing limitations the objective is to be OUTSIDE!! (with opportunities to warm up of course) Skating, sledding (please let us get some snow!), big games. kick ball, Foursquare, capture the flag, a whole day of Fortville or the Hideaway, a whole day of fort building, fires, and climbing and running! Whatever play
(safe play) the children want to do. They will decide!

How you can help on this day: Parent volunteers are needed so we can offer children a variety of places to play and to provide supervisory support to the facilitators.

We also need cupcakes and setup/breakdown help for the Founder’s Day Celebration. You can see what is needed and sign up

Please be prepared to participate in Riley’s Pool Covid testing on Monday, January 31 or take a rapid test prior to participation.

Thank you,
Ginger

PLEASE LET BECKY KNOW IMMEDIATELY
if you have had any close contacts
or currently have any positive cases of Covid
in your household. Be vigilant.

REDUCING OPPORTUNITY FOR EXPOSURE:
Positive cases will still be asked to stay home
for 10, 0r at least 5 days and provide TWO negative tests.
“Close contacts” will still be asked to stay off campus for 5 days.

UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE:
Aftercare will be cancelled
Wade Acres Junipers will not be going to mixed aged classes on campus.

PLEASE
Limit social outings. We each must do our best to return to a healthy campus.
We ALL want to stay open, but we need to be vigilant to make that happen.

It is all a moving target..
but we must not underestimate our ability to cope with it!

SNOW BOWL FRIDAYS

Friday Snow Bowl is now an independent, volunteer organized, after school activity.
Riley Faculty will be at the mountain in a support role from 12:15 - 3pm. However, children going to the Snow Bowl are considered dismissed at NOON.

Transportation is provided by volunteer carpools. Whenever the roads or weather has been questionable, I have cancelled this offering. ( I am inclined to be conservative.)

This allows families to make independent decisions about whether to go or not. You will have the option of having your child remain on campus, or go with you or a volunteer parent driver.

If you prefer to have your child remain on campus for regular 3:30 pick up, you must call the office at 596-6505 or text 691-4005.

If your child should be returned to campus for 3:30 pick up, you must arrange this with Craig at craigletowski@gmail.com.  or ‭(207) 790-1218‬ THANKS CRAIG!!!
RILEY MISSION STATEMENT
The Riley School guides children to become independent, lifelong learners and innovative thinkers.

Founded as an intentionally small, Progressive, ungraded elementary school in 1972, Riley recognizes each child’s unique learning style. The innovative and personalized curriculum challenges children to express themselves and develop their own intellectual and creative capabilities through discovery, questioning and active engagement.

We foster a sense of responsibility towards our natural world, our community, and each other. We value cooperation and collaboration, while balancing the individual development of social, emotional and physical and academic growth.

At Riley we trust in children as learners. We honor and respect the uniqueness of the individual. We cherish and protect childhood.
