THIS SUNDAY'S SERVICE
PENNE BECKETT
Sunday, August 15 at 10:15 a.m. via Livestream

As the centerpiece of our worship services this summer, our UU Church Worship Committee has crafted a Wellspring series that features other religious traditions and their connections to UU faith traditions. We view this series as educational and constructive; uplifting and inspirational. To continue this series, Virginia Brubaker will share how Paganism has been wellsprings in her life.

UPCOMING SUNDAY SERVICE
REV. FLORENCE CAPLOW & REV. SALLY FRITSCHE
Sunday, August 22 at 10:15 a.m. via Livestream

Many of us have followed the courageous journey of US gymnast Simon Biles at the Tokyo Olympics, and learned a new word from the gymnastic world: “twisties”, when a gymnast loses all sense of up or down in mid-air. Well, not many of us are Olympic gymnasts, but most of us have had the twisties, when life throws such a big surprise at us that we hardly know up from down. What do we do then? Rev. Florence and Rev. Sally will each offer reflections (inspired by Simon Biles) on how to re-find our balance when we have the twisties. This will be Rev. Florence’s last sermon for a while, since she will be going on three months of medical leave starting in September.
Sunday, August 29 at 10:15 a.m. via Livestream

We are excited to announce that we will have an all-church Sunday service at the Large Pavilion at Crystal Lake Park at 10:15 am on Sunday, August 29th, as our Ingathering/Water Communion. This will be an opportunity for all ages to gather, enjoy each other’s company, and celebrate coming together again.

Volunteers Needed for Photo Identification
The religious education office has a giant, beautiful box of old photos. We do not know a lot of the names, events, and dates. Are there a few people willing to work with Kendra to identify? It would be a great gift for the new incoming staff. If you are willing to work on this project, please contact Kendra Gibson at re-assistant@uucuc.org
OUR CARING CONGREGATION
JOYS AND SORROWS sent to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org last Sunday, August 9.
From Beth and Emil Cobb: Emil and I were married 45 years ago on August 7th in the Sanctuary at UUCUC. The Rev. W. Edward Harris officiated, and many people who are with us now in only our hearts attended. We are grateful for all are memories of them and that day.

From Ali Newbold: I May be discharged very soon from NWN Womens Hospital - Even though I still need four more weeks of intravenous Antibiotics - three times each day. Even though I've been barely making it at home for ages now. It’ll be a joy to finish the antibiotics but it’s worrisome that the infection treatment postpones urgent like saving treatment even further, as there’s been no effective treatment vs the mutated aggressive metastases since last September.

From Gail Cohen: Granddaughter Lizzy is out of the hospital and doing as well as can be expected. Thanks to everyone who knew about her situation for all of the prayers, thoughtful messages and kindnesses.

From Kim Crawford: Please pray for my Dad, Larry who's undergone 3 surgeries to alleviate a double hematoma of the brain. He is currently in the ICU in St. Anthony's in Rockford, IL under observation, where he's been staying for over 2 weeks now. This past surgery appears to have helped stop the pressure in his brain, but his recovery will still take several weeks or even months yet to come. I am hopeful he will be able to return home and we can resume our "old movies and ice cream" nights. Until then, please keep him (and our family) in your thoughts. Thank-you!

From MH McEnroe: Sending hope and healing to Florence, Theresa, and all others facing medical challenges.

From Jerry Carden and Tim Temple: A joy for the past week of getting my Iowa family farm house ready for my niece Jessica to move in this coming week. We'll miss the freedom of staying there ourselves, but she will really enjoy being there.

Please send your joys or sorrows to joysandsorrows@uucuc.org any time before the Joys and Sorrows portion of the service. They will be read aloud.
