Parent Education Coordinator
Idaho Parents Unlimited, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides training, resources, support, and one to one assistance for parents of children with disabilities and special health care needs, as well as accessible and inclusive arts programming is seeking a Parent Education Coordinator in the Boise office. This position is to provide assistance via one-to-one phone calls or emails to parents of children with disabilities and/or special healthcare needs and the professionals who serve them. This position also requires the ability to provide training, workshops, and support to parents, professionals, and youth both in-person and online.
Necessary skills:
- Must represent Idaho Parents Unlimited and its guiding principles.
- Must have strong knowledge of and experience with Idaho Special Education and the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act as well as experience with health systems including Medicaid, Developmental Disabilities, and Behavioral Health.
- Must have an understanding of family-centered care, family-engagement, and the importance of parent and professional collaboration.
- Must have the ability to respond effectively to changes and challenges and make effective adjustments where and when necessary.
- Public speaking and presenting to large and small audiences in person and virtually is required.
- Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be highly resourceful and self-motivated.
- Must maintain daily confidential records of communication and interactions with families and professionals using our cloud-based database.
- Must be professional and adhere to privacy laws and ethical guidelines.
- Must be able to function in a flexible work environment that will include different locations and may require working from home.
- Must be able to operate a variety of up-to-date technology and systems with which to perform daily duties.
- Must possess a proven ability to work effectively and respectfully with a broad range of people from diverse cultural, ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds.
- This position will be working from our Boise office, however due to current pandemic restrictions, applicants must have the ability to set up a confidential, professional home office.
Details:
While the general position hours are set between 9-5 on weekdays, due to training workshops and regional or national meetings and conferences, the position requires flexibility and will include evenings, weekends, and extensive travel both in-state and out-of-state (when not in pandemic lockdown).
Job is full-time, 40 hours per week.

Annual Dyslexia Awareness Summit

Taking place via Zoom on October 2, 2021, Decoding Dyslexia Idaho presents their annual Dyslexia Awareness Summit
This annual summit will benefit everyone - educators, healthcare professionals, and parents alike! Join us for a day of growth in better understanding our dyslexic children. Our keynote speaker is a co-author of the Woodcock-Johnson IV and will walk us through how to assess for dyslexia and some of the challenges evaluators face in making an accurate diagnosis.

Dr. Nancy Mathers - Assessment of Dyslexia: Constructs and Challenges
We are offering our breakout sessions in 4 weekly webinars every Wednesday 6:00p.m.-7:30p.m. Covering: Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, Science of Reading (SoR) and Orton-Gillingham.

Work of Art: Boise Rock School |
|
What an amazing collaboration we had in our Work of Art program at IPUL with Boise Rock School!
Our students created original graphic stickers, t-shirt designs and a street sign. Our Work of Art program teaches job skills thru the arts to students with a range of abilities and disabilities. Thank you Boise Rock School for being our community partner. We look forward to more collabs in the future!
A special thanks to my teaching artist team, Heather Bee, Amy Nack, Caitlin Harris of Wheelhouse Press, Cassandra Schiffler and Brynne Kundrick. Your gifts and talents made this an amazing experience for all! A shout out to Michael Thomas and Isaac Skinner for lending a hand with all the gear and keeping up my morale.

October 2, 2021, the El Korah Shriners will be having a free Screening Clinic - in Boise and Twin Falls for the Shriner's Hospital for Children to Identify children who can benefit from Orthopedic and Burn/Scar care
For any child from birth to 18 suffering
- Problems with Bones, Joints or Muscles
- Cerebral Palsy
- Hip Disorders
- Spina Bifida
- Scoliosis
- Club Foot
- Skeletal Growth Abnormalities
- Cleft Lip/Palate
- Burn Patients and Burn Scars
- Spinal Cord Injuries
At Shriners Hospitals for Children, All care and services are provided regardless of the families ability to pay.

What is a Certified Family Support Partner (CFSP)?
A CFSP assists other parents and caregivers who are raising children with mental health concerns. They are able to do this in a unique way that is different from traditional professionals because they have walked the walk. In other words, they have lived experience raising a child with mental illness and have navigated various child-serving systems, such as, education, children's mental health, and juvenile corrections. They have been there, done that and they understand.
Parents and caregivers feel more heard when sharing with someone who has walked in their shoes. Family members and providers are empowered. Goals are more often met and at a more expedient pace than if no CFSP was available.
To become a CFSP in Idaho, a qualified adult begins by attending and participating in CFSP Training, successfully completing an exam and satisfying the required number of supervised hours of paid or volunteer work.

Self Advocacy For Youth : Creating Positive Change |
|
Join Idaho Parents Unlimited during Bullying Prevention Month for a conversation about how kids and youth can advocate effectively for themselves.
This will consist of a normal, hour long training that will be recorded, followed by a half-hour question and answer section that will not.
