SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT In the last month there have been several instances of the oven or the gas from the stove being left on over night after a church activity. Leaving the oven or gas on is not only financially costly, but it has also become dangerous to our personnel, church members, and property.

Starting today, each time a person or group uses the kitchen, we are asking that the Clardy Hall Kitchen Closing Checklist be completed, initialed, and dated by those using the facilities. By working together, we can make sure that we keep Clardy Hall a safe and functioning place for all of us. Thank you so much for your help!

A Morsel for Meditation
To forgive the incessant provocations of daily life – to keep on forgiving the bossy mother-in-law, the bullying husband, the nagging wife, the selfish daughter, the deceitful son – how can we do it? Only, I think, by remembering where we stand, by meaning our words when we say in our prayers each night, “Forgive our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.” We are offered forgiveness on no other terms. To refuse it is to refuse God’s mercy for ourselves. There is no hint of exceptions and God means what he says.

Grant us, O Lord, to trust in you with all our hearts; for, as you always resist the proud who confide in their own strength, so you never forsake those who make their boast of your mercy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

We also pray for our Daughters of the King Ministry as they bring their strength and service together by praying for friends and for the people.

You may also add people to the list by filling out a DOK confidential prayer card and ptting them in the blue box located in the Narthex.
PRAYER REQUESTS & BOX

The Daughters of the King support your prayer needs and wishes. Each Sunday a prayer team will be available to pray with you after the Worship Service in the choir area after the 10:30 service. If you would like additional information, please see a DOK member.

They also have a intercessory prayer box on the table in the Narthex to deposit prayer requests. Prayer request cards may be found in the pews and beside the box in the Narthex. Daughters pray daily. All prayers are confidential. Each person is prayed for one month. If you wish for continued prayers, please complete another request card or contact a Daughter.

You may call the church office (903-455-5030) and specify it is for the DOK intercessory prayer list. You can hand the card to a Daughter (she is always wearing her cross).

They are rather old fashioned, but they are also old: the Ember Days, times for praying for the ministry of the church and especially for ordained ministers. They come, roughly, at the turns of the seasons.

They come in threes: Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.
The autumnal Ember Days begin on the first Wednesday after Holy Cross Day (Sept 14) and thus, in 2021, they are Sept 15, 17, and 18.

Similarly, Ember Days come in Advent (in the second week),
Lent (in the first week), and in the week of Pentecost.

Spare a thought this week for the ministers in your own parish, lay people whose lives are God's ministry in the world as well as your clergy, and for the bishops of our church and around the world. Pray also that God will raise up for us new and faithful candidates for the ordained ministry.
Diocesan Retreat 2021
For laity, bishops, priests, and deacons--
all the ministers of the church.

Join Bishop Michael Smith and Canon Carrie Boren Headington for 48 hours of retreat, scheduled for October 17-19 at the Prothro Center in Pottsboro.

There will be time for prayer, reflection, conversation, and rest. The theme will be the mission pursuits of Prayer, Evangelism, and Service as viewed through the lens of Benedictine Spirituality. In the Catechism of the Book of Common Prayer we learn: “The Church pursues its mission as it prays and worships, proclaims the Gospel, and promotes justice, peace, and love” (BCP 855).

In addition, participants are asked to read beforehand Benedictine Promises for Everyday People by Rachel Srubas.
For laity, bishops, priests, and deacons--all the ministers of the church.
Episcopal Diocese of Dallas Podcasts

Every day throughout the year we’ll be bringing you an audio
scripture reading from the Old and New Testament.
