DID YOU KNOW PESA HAS EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AVAILABLE TO PROMOTE ACCEPTANCE?
Many educators are familiar with the restorative justice programs of PESA, but in addition to these programs, PESA also offers a variety of educational programs that consist of live, interactive presentations. Available to students grades 5 through 12, they’ve never been more valuable and relevant than during this challenging time of Covid-19 and remote learning.
For example, the “WHAT IF: Labeling” presentation asks, “What if labels were just for jars, not for people?” and explores the negative impacts of stereotyping through visual and verbal presentations and thought-provoking conversations.
The workshops are designed for interactive student participation. For example, in the activity ‘There Is More to Me,’ the presenter shares a screen in which an illustration of a blank iceberg is depicted, and students are encouraged to fill it in with words that describe who they are and what they enjoy. The iceberg visually represents the concept that there is much more to a person than just what another sees, i.e. the tip of the iceberg concept. This is followed with a discussion regarding society’s labels and what that means as individuals.
