1) NLC PREPARING FOR CLASS 38. LAST CHANCE TO APPLY! Neighborhood Leadership Cleveland's Class 38 begins on February 25th. Candidates are being interviewed now, but there is still time for you to apply. We will be accepting applications until Monday January 31st at 5:00 PM. This is your chance to join our flagship neighborhood leadership training program and join the 1,200+ alumni that continue to provide service and leadership throughout Cleveland. 2) HAVE YOU JOINED OUR COMMUNITY BOOK CLUB? Neighborhood Leadership Institute's Community Book Club wraps up its 9th book next month. My Grandmother's Hands by Resmaa Menakem is currently being read and discussed by 35 participants in this edition of the Book Club. We average 32 guests each time we introduce a new book. You can be one of them for book #10. Stay tuned as we get set to announce the newest book. NLI will continue to focus on racial justice issues moving forward, but we will also explore new topics that relate to issues identified in our annual Community Priorities Survey. Participation is voluntary - join for one book or join for them all!

3) DON'T FORGET ABOUT SNR Six sites across the City of Cleveland are open 3 evenings a week for residents of all ages to get some socially distant socializing and indoor physical activity during the cold winter months. NLI's Schools as Neighborhood Resources (SNR) program operates Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM. NLI, the City of Cleveland and CMSD partner to open these six schools as a resource for the community. Looking for something to do? ANNUAL COMMUNITY PRIORITIES SURVEY Thanks to everyone that took the time to submit responses in NLI's first annual Community Priorities Survey. We are evaluating the responses now and will soon be sharing results with you. Along with the identified top priorities identified by our audience, we will introduce programmatic efforts by NLI to address some of the most pressing issues within our community. Stay tuned for more information!

NLI SPOTLIGHT:

COURTNEY MICKENS Courtney Mickens is a non-profit leader and resident of Warrensville Heights. He is a Neighborhood Leadership Cleveland (NLC) Class 33 graduate and currently serves as the Impact Director for City Year Cleveland. He studied non-profit leadership at Cleveland State University, where he received his undergraduate degree in Non-Profit Administration. Additionally, he is currently enrolled in the Masters of Business Administration at Howard University. Courtney now serves as a board member for Neighborhood Leadership Institute and he is closing on his first year.    Courtney feels that his NLC training prepared him to gain a deeper understanding of the issues that plague our city, especially ones that don't receive media attention. "Their work in infant vitality has been critical to bringing awareness and helping to make real change locally. I believe that organizations like NLI are the foundation to change in our community because they are led by people who are already leading the charge in the community." He continues, "If it had not been for Neighborhood Leadership Cleveland I don't think I would have understood the true importance of being a resource to others and the impacts of community organizing."

WORKFORCE CONNECT You can sign up for information sessions for health care career on-ramp workforce training. Competitive pay, training, tuition reimbursement and promotion potential make health care a great new career. The Workforce Connect Healthcare Sector Partnership, Towards Employment, the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospitals and The MetroHealth System are partnering to now offer a free eight-day Health Care Career On-Ramp training program. THANKS TO OUR PARTNERS IN THE COMMUNITY! NLI Healthy Communities appreciates your partnership! As we all know, last year brought challenges to many and we all are working hard to meet the needs of so many families. Thanks to your referrals and support and the hard work of our Navigators, 1,550 mothers were navigated. We made over 5,000 program and service referrals. The generosity of our volunteers allowed us to continue hosting important events such as our diaper distributions and community baby showers - providing families with much-needed items during these trying times. We couldn't have done it without you all! We appreciate you and look forward to working with each and every one of you this year. We are excited to see what 2022 brings. Stay safe! Stay healthy! TRUE2U

ANOTHER YEAR OF TRUE2U KICKS OFF! True2 U successfully kicked off another year of mentoring for CMSD 8th graders. Our 8th grade schedule transitioned to remote programming and the sessions will be in full gear starting in February. The True2U 9th grade program continues and is going strong. The 9th graders have reached the midway point of their programming.  The CollegeBound program starts this Saturday! Mentors from Cleveland State University and Cuyahoga Community College will be working with 9th-12th graders two Saturdays a month through the end of May. The CollegeBound curriculum is focused on wellness and college and career readiness. Good luck to all of our students and thank you to our mentors!
