Parents/Guardians, Students and Staff are welcome to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in our Mercy HS Chapel on Wednesday, December 7 from 7:30am - 3:00pm. Priests will be available throughout the school day for confession.

Feast of the Immaculate Conception & Blessing of Youth Mercy Associates

Parents/Guardians are invited to Mercy for our Feast of the Immaculate Conception Mass Thursday, December 8 at 10:15am in the Auditorium. Worship with us as we celebrate this special holy day and induct our new Youth Mercy Associates.

Kairos

Last week Campus Ministry had our first KAIROS of the school year. 32 seniors experienced this very special 4 day retreat at St. Paul of the Cross. This student led retreat offers an opportunity to deepen the students relationship with God and others through prayer, reflection, small group discussion, Reconciliation and Eucharist. There are spots still available for seniors to sign-up to attend KAIROS in February or April 2023!


Dates: February 7-10, 2023 and April 25-28


We are now accepting KAIROS registrations for our February retreat. The deadline is Friday, December 16. Please email Judi Griggs-Dennis for more information at jgdennis@mhsmi.org.

Rosary Wednesdays

We will be praying the Most Holy Rosary every Wednesday before school in our beautiful Mercy HS Chapel. Start your day with this powerful prayer offered at 7:25am every Wednesday morning. Rosaries and prayer cards will be available. Please feel free to join us, all are welcome!

CHRISTMAS DANCE INFO, APPLICATION & TICKETS

Attention Juniors & Seniors!

Here are details for the Christmas Dance (A-Ball)


When: Wednesday, December 21, 6:30-10:30pm (you must arrive by 7:00pm for dinner and once you leave there is no re-entry)


Where: Laurel Manor, 39000 Schoolcraft Rd, Livonia, MI 48150


Ticket Price: $140.00 per couple or $70.00 per person + online ticket fees. Mercy students may purchase up to two tickets.


Attire: Semi Formal, shoes must be worn at all times.

 

A-Ball Dance Application: All Juniors and Seniors must complete this A-Ball Dance APPLICATION HERE by Friday, December 9. Tickets may be refunded if the A-Ball Dance Application has not been completed and submitted on time. Mercy students not bringing a guest may email the completed application to deanofstudents@mhsmi.org or turn it in at the Reception Area. For students bringing a guest, the guest's high school administrator must email the application to deanofstudents@mhsmi.org.

VISITOR BADGE REQUIRED ON CAMPUS

The Administrative Team appreciates all you do to help us keep our community safe. For increased safety measures, beginning Tuesday, November 29, we will badge all visitors using our Raptor Visitor Management System who enter the building during the school day, 8:00am - 2:40pm. This includes entrance at the Reception Area and Auditorium/Gym Lobby.  


All visitors need to present a valid driver’s license or other government issued ID upon entry to receive a visitor’s badge, which can then be reprinted for further visits. Learn more about the Raptor Visitor Management System here.


As a reminder, we kindly ask that you respect the academic areas while classes are in session throughout the building. If you wish to speak to a teacher, please contact them to schedule an appointment in advance.

REMINDER: END OF SEMESTER DATES & POLICIES

Fall 2022 End of Semester Dates

Wednesday, December 7 - Test day for any last test/quiz/formal assessment in ANY Social Studies, Computer Science, or Art course. 


Thursday, December 8 - Test day for any last test/quiz/formal assessment in ANY Science, World Language, or Physical Education course. 


Thursday, December 8 - World Language Orals begin.


Friday, December 9 - Test day for any last test/quiz/formal assessment in ANY Math, Religious Studies, or Performing Arts course.


Friday, December 16 - All final English papers are due by this date. 


Friday, December 16 - All class assignments should be graded and posted by midnight for ALL courses, except for final exams, essays, projects, and presentations.


Monday, December 12 - Friday, December 16

The five days prior to exams should be assessment free for students to prepare for final exams, complete final projects/presentations, and prepare for world language orals. Students can be assigned classwork but not extensive homework these days.


Final Exams Dates

Final exams are scheduled to last one (1) hour and 20 minutes and are given on the assigned test day and time.


Monday, December 19

1st hour: 8:30am - 9:50am

2nd hour: 10:00am - 11:20am


Tuesday, December 20

3rd hour: 8:30am - 9:50am

4th hour: 10:00am - 11:20am

5th hour: 11:30am - 12:50pm


Wednesday, December 21

6th hour: 8:30am - 9:50am

7th hour: 10:00am - 11:20am


Final exams are given on the assigned test day and time unless, for serious reasons and under rare circumstances, other arrangements have been made with Administration. Students must initiate that request two weeks before the date by completing and submitting this form to be signed by the parent, verifying the need for a change in test time, accompanied by appropriate documentation (i.e. medical documentation, airline tickets, etc.). The request must be approved by the Associate Principal of Academic Affairs, the Dean of Students, and the teacher involved.


Students can rearrange their final exams to ease their load on the 3,4,5 day or two hard finals on one day by changing the day/hour (but not to finish earlier). Please work with your teachers and request they send an email notification, approving this arrangement to Ms. McMaster. Make sure to thank your teacher for accommodating this request.


Thursday, December 22 - Thursday, January 5 - PowerSchool will be turned off on Thursday, December 22, and turned back on Thursday, January 5. The purpose of turning off PowerSchool is to give students and staff a true break over the holiday.


Please note staff are not expected to answer emails over the Christmas Holiday. Emails can be sent, yet staff are not expected to respond until staff return to school on Monday, January 9, 2023. Classes will start for students on Tuesday, January 10, 2023.

 

Thursday, January 12 - First semester grades will be reviewed, double-checked, and posted by 9:00am.

 

Final Exam/Essays/Project/Presentation Policy

Final Exams/Essays/Projects/Presentations will be weighted 20% of the final grade in ALL classes except for some courses in Performing Arts and Art departments. All Final exams/Essays/Projects/Presentations will be a common final assessment (exam, project, paper). This will be implemented in ALL courses. Exams need to be at least 75% the same for all students taking the course. The other 25% can be determined by each individual teacher.

AOD ADVENT PROGRAMMING

Advent begins on Sunday, November 27 and the Archdiocese offers the following spiritual fulfillment opportunities:


  • I am Here Advent Holy Hours: Every day during Advent, a parish of the Archdiocese of Detroit will host a special Holy Hour at 7 p.m. Join in the experience and the transformative presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. Learn more at iamhere.org/advent.


  • Live the Nativity: Visit the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament after 11 AM Mass (approximately 12-2 PM) on December 4 for Nativity story participation, live animals (petting zoo), songs, warming treats, and the opportunity to encounter a relic of St. Joseph. Kids can come dressed like a shepherd or an angel if they wish! (Yes - even to Mass that day!) All are welcome. Learn more.


  • Reconciliation Opportunities: For Catholics, the Sacrament of Reconciliation is an important part of the preparation process during Advent. Reconciliation opportunities within the Archdiocese of Detroit can be found here.

  • Within Lore every year, the families of the graduating class have the opportunity to purchase ads to celebrate their students with a personalized message and photo. There are a variety of size and price options for these ads, ranging from a full page ad ($325) to a sixteenth of a page color ($25). Marlin Shop

The Marlin Shop will be open after school on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Quarter zips are available for purchase for $35. Cash, check, credit card and Apple Pay accepted.
