FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

September 24, 2021

Happy Homecoming Week “Tiger” Students and Families,

What a refreshing and energizing week it has been as our students and staff engaged in safe, fun, and interactive activities and events to celebrate Homecoming. I want to thank Mr. Hughes our AD, Alicia Dotinga our cheerleader coach, Sarah Paul who coaches our Drill Team, Chantal Czarapata who leads our ASB students, and Maegan Gomes who support LCTV for producing one of the best virtual convocations ever! The overall LC student body enjoyed this experience, and they could feel the “Tiger” pride and spirit from each of the participants in the convocation. Another great example of how our students, your children, are rising to the challenge and working to move forward and enjoy and appreciate the opportunity to be back in school.

I recently shared with our student body and staff how recent trends in social media are having impacts on our students and our school environment overall. I encourage all families and our student to monitor your usage with social media and to exercise caution when viewing, accessing, and sharing social media material, post, messages, and photos. Unfortunately, there have been incidents in our school as well as schools in our city and country, where the intention of a student or group of students was to share information, the impact of the decision was negative for someone, or the group of individuals involved. So, hey “Tigers,” let’s continue to be wise and smart and keep “our house” as safe, caring, and welcoming place for all “Tigers.”

As always, if you have any questions, thoughts, or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me at ivanc@spokaneschools.org or (509) 354-6890.

Go Tigers!

Mr. Corley

COLLEGE & CAREER

FAFSA.png

Financial Aid (FAFSA) Opens Soon!

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) opens October 1! It is highly recommended that all LC Seniors file the FAFSA - it is FREE to file. It is the first step in getting financial aid -- including grants, scholarships, work study, and loans - from any college, technical school, or career training program. Go to to www.fafsa.gov for more information.

In order to file the FAFSA, both the parent and student must first create FSA IDs. We strongly encourage you to create your FSA ID now because it takes approximately 1-3 days for the FSA ID to be verified and ready to be used. Get yours today! Learn more about FAFSA at 101: FAFSA

AP/College Board Accounts

If you are enrolled in an Advanced Placement (AP) class, you will need to create or access your existing College Board account (this is only for students that have a class with "AP" in the course title). Your account will give you access to AP Classroom resources and access for ordering your AP exams (we will order exams later in September). This account is not connected to your school accounts, so you will need to save the login and password (LC teachers do not have access to your login info, so if you forgot your login info, you will need to recover it on the AP website). Click here to go to the College Board website to either make sure you can access your account from last year or to create a new one if you are taking your first AP class.

The Free and Reduced meal applications must be processed by October 1 to ensure school funding and that students qualify for additional benefits. The online meal application is available and it is the fastest and most effective way to apply.

PARKING.png

Student and Parent/Visitor Parking

Parent/Visitor Parking: LC does not have designated visitor parking, so you can park at any of the metered spots across the street. For after-hours events, you can park for free in any of the parking lots under the freeway. The doors to the Commons building are handicap accessible.

Student Drop-off/Pick-Up: Before and after school, 4th Avenue in front of LC is a busy place with school buses and parents competing for limited space. In order to help alleviate congestion, we recommend that parents drop off and pick up students either on 5th Avenue, 3rd Avenue or a block east or west of LC on 4th Avenue. It is important to not park (even for a drop off) in the bus zones.

Student Parking: LC students can park in the two freeway lots (in front of the Field House and in front of the church to the east). Be sure to display your student parking permit to avoid getting a ticket in the student lots. Student parking permits can be purchased in the Business Office for $5. The lot directly in front of the main building and the parking garage are only for LC staff and are monitored for cars without staff permits.

PARENTINVOLVEMENT.png

Parent Involvement

We would love for parents to join our Tiger support organizations!

We will list all parent meetings in the calendar at the top of each LC News and on www.lctigers.com.

  • LC IMPA - band, choir, orchestra parents
  • LC STAGE - theatre parents
  • LC SAN - Senior All-Nighter parents
MASKUP.jpg

Masks

All students, staff, and visitors must wear masks that cover the mouth and nose at all times while in the building. Disposable surgical masks, 2-3 ply fabric masks, and 2-ply gators are all appropriate. Mesh/knitted masks are not appropriate. We have disposable masks for students who forget to bring one from home.
