Dear Narika Community,
The Narika Team and Board is thrilled to announce and welcome our new Executive Director, Shailaja Dixit! We are incredibly excited for the experience and passion she will bring to Narika, especially as we begin the new year and our 30th year of service to survivors and the community.
Shailaja joins us after 10 plus years in the field of Domestic Violence advocacy, management and leadership. She comes to us most recently from SAVE (Safe Alternatives to Violent Environments) where she served as Community Engagement Manager, working to mobilize resources, volunteers and local communities to raise awareness and support for the Intimate Partner Violence (IPV) movement. She was also instrumental in helping spearhead Project LIGHT, SAVE’s innovative Survivor Leadership & Advocacy Training Program. Shailaja brings with her a rich and varied work experience, ranging from crisis intervention and direct service to development, community engagement, education and outreach.
Shailaja is also the Co-Founder and former Executive Director of Rewire Community, a local grassroots non profit which aims to generate awareness, resources, dialogue and action to break cycles of gender-based violence, especially IPV. Under Shailaja’s leadership, Rewire Community responded to the pandemic by initiating survivor relief assistance funds and care-kits and was recognized as ‘Unsung Heroes’ by Assemblymember Alex Lee (Assembly District 25) and ‘Champions of Change’ by Asian Women’s Shelter.
In a previous career, Shailaja held senior positions in corporate market research for 14 years, including Associate VP and Director of Operations. She then answered the call of the IPV movement and started her journey as a Narika volunteer and went on to serve as our SEED Program Manager, Client Advocate and Programs Director. We are now happy to have her back on the team!
Shailaja believes in building collaborative networks of care and in the power of an engaged and informed community. Her vision is to build a trauma-informed, survivor-centered, culturally responsive service organization, grounded in core values of integrity, authenticity, equity, courage, inclusion and compassion.
We are so thankful for her new leadership as she takes on Narika’s ongoing efforts to support survivors of IPV and create violence-free communities. Welcome Shailaja!
With deepest gratitude,
Narika Team & Board
