Keep Christ in Christmas

Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest

St. Joseph Catholic School has participated in the Keep Christ in Christmas poster contest, sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, for several years. We often have students advance and place at the state level competition. All classes have been introduced to the poster contest during Art Class. This year, the poster will be done independently, at home, rather than during Art Class. It is optional and enthusiastically encouraged! This wonderful contest causes students to reflect on the meaning of Christmas.

Raising Peaceful Children in an Anxious Age: How to De-stress Your Lives and Your Children

Even prior to COVID, stress, anxiety, and general mental health concerns were on the rise. While shut downs and isolation exacerbated mental health struggles, as society re-opens, many of us, particularly our children and teens, experience struggles to find a new sense of “normal” and are attempting to resolve the effects of the past two years. As a society we have many comforts and technologies that are supposed to make life easier but continue to experience chronically high levels of stress. Instead of treating sources of stress as obstacles and hurdles, using them as "stepping stones" in our spiritual life, and teaching our children to do the same, can actually bring us closer to God.

Learn how approaching stress or anxiety with curiosity and compassion and engaging in the spiritual life of the Church can help you and your children experience a greater sense of God’s peace.

November Wellness Goal:

Eat at least 5 servings of fruits and vegetables per day!

A healthy eating routine is important at every stage of life and can have positive effects that add up over time. It’s important to eat a variety of fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy or fortified soy alternatives, and protein foods. When deciding what to eat or drink, choose options that are full of nutrients. Make every bite count, Dietary guidelines 2020-2025. An article from the American Journal of Preventive Medicine states that diets abundant in fruits and vegetables are associated with a reduced risk for chronic disease. The current 2015–2020 Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends that people needing 2,000 calories per day include 2 cups of fruit and 2.5 cups of vegetables in their daily diets. This recommendation varies with age, sex, caloric needs etc. More information is available at MyPlate.gov.

Orthopedic devices: If your child requires crutches, casts, splints, or any other orthopedic device, you must send in a doctor’s note that includes a summary of the treatment plan, required accommodations and your child’s limitations for physical activities (PE/recess). Additionally, a doctor’s note is required if your child is unable to participate in Physical Education classes. We also require a doctor's note clearing your child to resume normal activities without any restrictions once their doctor has determined that wearing an ortho device or restricted activity is no longer required.
