Follower of Ferdinando Galli Bibiena (1657–1743). Perspective Study, ca. 1705–10. Promised gift of Jules Fisher
Must-See: Bibiena Drawings from the Jules Fisher Collection at the Morgan Library and Museum
Giuseppe Galli Bibiena, The Courtyard of a Princely Palace, ca. 1720–30.
Promised gift of Jules Fisher.
Bibiena theatrical drawings from Jules Fisher's collection at the Morgan Library and Museum in New York City are now available for viewing, as the first exhibit dedicated to them in the U.S. in 30 years.

This exhibit is a good way to learn more about the Bibiena family that influenced European scenic design and the design of theatres for over 100 years in the 18th and 19th centuries.

The exhibit is well worth attending for its own content, and for the opportunity to see the Morgan Library itself. Read more in our blog.

Interview with Mike Baldassari on After Midnight at Signature Theatre, Now Available for Digital Viewing
After Midnight opened this month as a cool hybrid: a Broadway-style theatrical show that was performed on stage at the Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia, but designed for broadcast and available for digital viewing to global audiences through August 4, 2021 via Broadway on Demand.

Ever wonder what it’s like to design a new theatrical production for a digital audience? We talked to the show's lighting designer, Mike Baldassari, to learn more about his work and how this design process was different than other strictly theatrical or filmed projects. Read out Designer Q&A to discover what we learned about his experience.
Lighting Designer,
After Midnight
"Because we took a 'less is more' approach, the show could be teched and shot within a week. We were not tied to running the show sequentially, so we used the shooting model of film to get the best capture for streaming."

An Interview with Jack Weir on Death Drop London
As part of the reopening of live theatre in the UK, Death Drop, a "Dragatha Christie" Murder Mystery, opened earlier this month at the Garrick Theatre in London.

So what was it like to open a new theatrical production in the West End following the closures and re-closures of British theatres due to the COVID-19 pandemic? We talked to the show's lighting designer, Jack Weir, to learn more about his work on the show. Read our Designer Q&A to explore what we learned about his experience.
Lighting Designer,
Death Drop London
"It feels so humbling to be opening a brand new show in the West End as part of the comeback of British Theatre. The laughter we’ve heard from audiences is testament to the importance of theatre in our lives, to offer escapism. What better tonic for that than Drag!"

- Jack Weir, Lighting Designer, Death Drop London
