Summer Reflections

What a great summer we have had here at GEL Solutions! We have been blessed with a heavy workload but nonetheless, we strive to remain flexible and strongly believe in a healthy work/life balance for our hard working team here at GEL. Whether you are hitting the beach, taking a road trip, camping, relaxing, or whatever other activities you enjoy this time of year, great times are to be had and fond memories are often made. Taking time to decompress from our daily routines and enjoying life with our families and friends is important and good for the soul.

As Summer comes to a close, we look forward to cooler temperatures and all of the Fall traditions that are just around the corner. It's hard to believe we are already at this point in the year!

We hope you had a wonderful summer.

Responding to Crash Victim on SC Highway
Upon his return from a project, Tony Mangum was traveling just south of Florence, SC on I-95 when he observed a vehicle just a few cars ahead of him veer off the interstate, hitting the front end of a guardrail and ultimately drifting into the woods. He pulled off the road past the wreck, quickly recognizing the victim was unconscious and the vehicle was leaking fluids. Joined by other motorists coming to aid the victim, Tony stood by with his fire extinguisher in case the car caught on fire until fire trucks arrived.

We commend Tony for being well-prepared and responding to this critical situation without hesitation.

GEL Solutions Survey team supports Fort Bragg Solar Project
The U.S. Army, in partnership with Duke Energy and Ameresco, is nearing completion of it's 2-acre floating solar installation on Fort Bragg. GEL Solutions was pleased provide surveying services to support the project which has been coined the largest floating solar array in the Southeast. Our survey crew worked with the subcontracted dive teams to stake out all of the anchor points, 44 in total, for the panels being positioned on Big Muddy lake. The purpose of the installation is to provide energy security, promote renewable energy and save on electricity costs.

Check out this article by PV Magazine for more details about the Fort Bragg solar project. You can also contact us or visit our website for information about our Surveying Services.
Service Highlight
When analyzing floor flatness or floor levelness, 3D Laser Scanning has become vastly more efficient than traditional methods and is often more cost-effective. We offer precise, floor flatness surveys meeting ASTM Standards E 1155-96. After comprehensive scans of the floor surface are performed, reports are generated to provide the floor level (FL) and flatness numbers (Ff.) Any F numbers exceeding limits are flagged. Deliverables include the raw data and a cross-section profile of the investigated area.

By providing complete and accurate identification of irregularities throughout your targeted floor surface, you can trust GEL Solutions to deliver the detailed information you require.

Contact us or visit our website for more information about our 3D Laser Scanning services.
Subsurface Fun Facts
World's Largest Tunnel:
The Delaware Aqueduct
The Delaware Aqueduct, constructed between 1939 and 1945, is an 85-mile-long tunnel that delivers drinking water from Rondout Reservoir in Ulster County, NY to Hillview Reservoir in Yonkers, NY near the Bronx. The supply comes from four reservoirs connected to the upper Delaware River which include the Cannonsville, the Neversink, the Pepacton and the Rondout, carrying about 50% of New York City's water supply (estimated at five to six hundred million gallons of water a day.) Although continual updates and repairs to the structure have been necessary, this engineering miracle remains to be an essential component to New York City's infrastructure.

This video on YouTube includes additional historical information and interesting facts about the Delaware Aqueduct.
In North Carolina, any engineering and surveying services are performed by GEL Engineering of NC, Inc. from the Greensboro and Raleigh locations.
