2022 CYFS Summit on Research in Early Childhood

The CYFS Summit on Research in Early Childhood aims to:

  • Communicate cutting-edge early childhood findings from NU-affiliated researchers and colleagues.
  • Link ongoing efforts in early childhood research, practice and policy.
  • Advance the science of early childhood education and development via connections among community partners, key stakeholders, policymakers, early childhood practitioners and researchers.

First Five Nebraska internships now available

First Five Nebraska (FFN) is offering paid internships for graduate and undergraduate students who are interested in utilizing research and data to influence public policy, public service or government relations. Applications are due this Thursday, July 1, 2021.

FFN is a statewide early childhood policy, research/data analysis and strategic communications organization that works with early childhood stakeholders on public policies that ensure our youngest children have high-quality early learning opportunities during the first five years of life.

Family Self-Sufficiency Demonstration Development Grants

The Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation (OPRE) is accepting proposals from entities looking to strengthen and evaluate coordinated, client-centered approaches to improving family self-sufficiency. Proposals should support planning for and execution of evaluation-related activities by eligible entities that serve low-income families with children.

Head Start University Partnerships: Building the Evidence Base for ECE Workforce Well-Being

This funding opportunity aims to support projects that will contribute to the knowledge base regarding the individual, program and community factors that promote the well-being of Head Start and/or Early Head Start education staff (i.e., teachers and assistant teachers).

Projects must be led by researchers working in partnership with one or more Head Start programs. Together, they will identify and evaluate promising approaches to improving education staff well-being that are supported by existing research and evidence-based theory of change models.

U.S. Department of Education Innovation and Research Program Grants

The Education Innovation and Research (EIR) program provides funding to create, develop, implement, replicate or take to scale entrepreneurial, evidence-based, field-initiated innovations to improve student achievement and attainment for high-need students and to rigorously evaluate such innovations. There are three types of grants: early phase, mid-phase and expansion.
Mid-phase grants are supported by moderate evidence. Funding will support implementation and a rigorous evaluation of a program that has been successfully implemented under an early-phase grant or other similar effort.

Proposal due date: July 7, 2021

Expansion grants are supported by strong evidence for at least one population and setting, and grantees are encouraged to implement innovations at the national level. Funding will support implementation and a rigorous evaluation of a program found to produce sizable, significant impacts under a mid-phase grant or other similar effort.

African American Child and Family Research Center

The Office of Planning, Research and Evaluation (OPRE) is accepting proposals to lead and support research on the needs of African American populations served by the Administration for Children and Families and promising approaches to promote social and economic well-being among low-income African American populations.

National Science Foundation Development Sciences Program

The Developmental Sciences Program supports basic research that increases our understanding of cognitive, linguistic, social, cultural and biological processes related to human development across the lifespan.

Research supported by this program will add to our knowledge of the underlying developmental processes that support social, cognitive and behavioral functioning, thereby illuminating ways for individuals to live productive lives as members of society.

Expected award budget: $100,000 - $200,000
Proposal due dates: July 15, 2021, and Jan. 17, 2022

Coordinated Evaluations of Child Care and Development Fund Policies and Initiatives: Planning Grants (Phase 1)

The Office of Planning, Research, and Evaluation (OPRE) is accepting proposals for the Coordinated Evaluations of Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF) Policies and Initiatives Phase 1 planning grants.

This grant program will support partnerships between CCDF lead agencies and researchers to develop rigorous, policy-relevant evaluations testing child care subsidy policies designed to increase low-income families’ access to high quality child care. Sponsored projects will evaluate policies and practices related to setting and implementing subsidy payment rates and/or family co-payments.

The Brady Education Foundation is currently accepting proposals focused on evaluating programs that have the potential of helping to close the opportunity and resulting achievement gaps associated with race and family income.

Attendees will learn about key research, program, policy and outreach aspects of high-quality early childhood education programs and services and their important role in economic development.
