GGUSD Welcomes Back Students for the 2022-23 School Year

GGUSD schools welcomed students back to the 2022-23 school year on August 15 with balloons, red carpets, high-fives and smiles! The district begins the new year with a multitude of new and expanded programs to support students’ academic and social-emotional growth and increase family engagement, including:


  1. new before and after school extended learning opportunities for TK-12th grade including before-school academic supports at all comprehensive high schools, Monday through Friday beginning at 7:15 a.m., due to a new state requirement that the instructional day cannot begin before 8:30 a.m.
  2. expanded transitional kindergarten and preschool serving more students than ever before;
  3. the completion of $100 million in security improvements to school facilities;
  4. the expansion of our ASPIRE social work program to all schools, which includes 21 social workers and 30 mental health specialists;
  5. AVID strategies being implemented at all elementary, intermediate and high school campuses;
  6. expansion of Freshmen Success Initiative;
  7. more instructional aides in the classrooms;
  8. a focus on CTE pathways, Early College Academy and dual enrollment courses;
  9. continued athletic facility upgrades;
  10. a renewed focus on online safety with workshops for students and families; and
  11. full operation of four new Family Resource Centers for a total of 5 FRCs, one in each trustee area.


Bolsa Grande Football Ready to Tackle New Season

WATCH: Check out this video highlighting Bolsa Grande's football team as they prepare for tonight's week 0 game against Workman. The 7 pm game will have a live broadcast at bit.ly/ggusdathletics. Bolsa looks to win their 4th consecutive opening game. Go Matadors!

GGUSD Staff: All In for Students

At the district's annual keynote event, GGUSD staff came together to gear up for another successful school year, focused on serving the needs of all students! The event was attended by hundreds of school employees who heard district updates from Superintendent Dr. Gabriela Mafi and the district's team of assistant superintendents, as well as performances from La Quinta High School's drumline and talented vocalists from Garden Grove HIgh School. 

GGHS Seniors Usher In Last First Day of High School

Garden Grove High School seniors started the 2022-2023 school year extra early, walking from one side of the quad to the other, to symbolize walking into their last "first day of school." What a fun way to start the year for the Class of 2023!


GGUSD Hosts First Day of School Photo Contest

GGUSD parents have submitted adorable First Day of School photos for GGUSD's First Day of School Photo Contest. If you haven't posted your photo, there is still time as the contest runs through August 26. We love seeing the big smiles on our students' faces and the pride from our awesome GGUSD families!


There are three ways to enter:

  • Post your photo on Facebook with the hashtag #GGUSDFIRSTDAY2022
  • Post your photo on Instagram with the hashtag #GGUSDFIRSTDAY2022
  • Email your photos to pio_department@GGUSD.us (this guarantees we receive it)


Photos must be posted by Friday, August 26.


Tip: Make sure your post is public or we will not be able to view it. Only one entry per user. All entries will be entered into a random drawing for a chance to win GGUSD swag.


GGUSD Food Services Team Serves Free Meals to All Students

GGUSD is proud to serve free meals to all students! Our Food Services team does an excellent job preparing tasty nutritious meals and creating a warm and welcoming environment in our school cafeterias.

DID YOU KNOW? New in 2022-23, GGUSD has five Family Resource Centers (one in each trustee area) to connect families to important assistance in areas like food, health care, housing, mental health counseling and more.
