As we celebrate MLK Day and think about his message to all of us to give back and volunteer, it is a perfect time to learn about volunteer opportunities that happen all year long in our area.

KBVB, ZAP 50 and many groups have volunteer events we would love for you and your friends to come and support. Stay in touch with these volunteer events, meet new people, learn about our many environmental groups in RI and feel good making a difference in our community. Find out how you can get involved.

Litter Clean-Up Events

The year is just starting, but our die hard environmentalists are already getting clean-up events on the books.

Clean-Up is planned for August 27, 2022

This year we are asking EVERYONE: schools, community groups, businesses, municipalities & individuals; to take part as we reach for 10,000 + volunteers.

2022 is the 50th Anniversary of the largest one-day environmental clean-up in Rhode Island. On Sept. 9, 1972, 10,000 volunteers attended Operation Zap and cleaned the banks of Blackstone River of 10,000 TONS of debris. (See the video)

If they can do it in 1972-- then we can do it now! Make sure you, and all your friends, get involved as we hope to make history in the Blackstone once again.

We are looking for Community Captains, marketing & event support, business sponsors, events along the river, and lots and lots of residents that will take action to make where we live cleaner & greener.

Even SANTA Recycles

If you saw Santa on the Polar Express train ride, you might of also seen the elves helping Santa make sure recyclables were not mixed with trash.

The Polar Express event recycled 3,000 pounds of cardboard, metal and plastic containers and then another 120 pounds (16 large 45 gallon bags) of plastic wrap.

Thank you Santa for caring about our environment

We understand. The holidays are such a busy time, so don't worry about the past.

Just start the New Year off on the right track and make sure you are recycling right & all you can. Not sure how to start? See some ideas below or contact me with a challenge you might have recycling. It could be easier than you think.

Cleaning Out? After the holidays and while we are inside, many like myself, are cleaning out our closets and household.

While you are doing this-- please RECYCLE all you can. Recycling does not stop with just the items allowed in your curbside bin or cart.

Rhode Island has many programs to recycle beyond the bin, but these are DROP-OFF programs: meaning you must bring to a designated location. Most are FREE too.
