Rocking.

NOW STREAMING

on Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube.

There is much rocking on our new release from Navona records. Carol Barnett’s lilting, lush When all falls silent. Christopher Jessup’s awestruck interpretation of Whitman’s The Mississippi at Midnight, in which poet and composer consider the solemnity of a starless darkness. Anne Kilstofte’s near-rebuttal to Whitman’s night gloom in her setting of Gerard Manley Hopkins’ The Starlight Night, finding a kind of religiosity, a mystery, in the “splendour and wonder” of the blazing heavens. Lying at the center of all this rumination is Karen Siegel’s Love Lines celebrating the interconnectivity of us all, threaded by love. Balancing Karen’s driving exuberance is Deborah Kavasch’s fragile, transparent Feather on God’s Breath, inspired by Hildegard von Bingen. Finally, three works from Leanna Kirchoff: her musical ruminations on the redemptive qualities of water (pond 1: womb, pond 5: font), and our title work, Meciendo, a mesmerizing berceuse that draws together the rocking of the sea, of the wind, and of mothers.

New works from six composers unknown to one another, yet wondrously aligned through rich poetry and shared interests; their music weaves seamlessly, even mystically, into a meaningful story in Meciendo
