YMM Digital Art Exhibit Launch

The Fort McMurray Airport Authority launched its 3rd YMM Digital Art Exhibit of 2024, featuring the stunning digital artwork of acclaimed artist Amy Keller-Rempp. Passengers and guests were treated to a special launch celebration, which included a live performance by local musician Matty Parlee and culinary creations from Earls Kitchen + Bar.

“YMM is the first impression many visitors have of our community – and through programs and initiatives such as the YMM Digital Art Exhibit, we are ensuring our region is well-represented throughout the terminal,” says Denean Robinson, President & CEO of the Fort McMurray Airport Authority.

Wheels & Wings Car Show

YMM was happy to host the Local HERO Foundation's 3rd Annual Wings & Wheels Car Show at our North Terminal on July 27. Congratulations on HERO on an amazing event! We can't wait to hear the total raised for your Helicopter Emergency Response Organization, delivering 24/7 emergency helicopter services for the people of Northeastern Alberta.

Tim Hortons at YMM Celebrates Camp Day

Team YMM came out to support the annual Camp Day initiative at the Tim Hortons location in YMM on July 17. Passengers had the chance to win Tim Hortons merchandise and gift cards. This year's Canada-wide campaign raised nearly $12.8 million for the Tim Hortons Foundation Camps.

Snowbirds Fuel Up at Executive Flight Centre

We caught up with Captain Edward Soye, Snowbird 10, Advance and Safety Pilot, on July 12. He and seven of his Canada's military aerobatics teammates stopped on the YMM Runway to refuel at Executive Flight Centre before heading to Yellowknife.

Team YMM at Volunteer Fest

Fort McMurray Airport Authority staff and volunteers were thrilled to participate in FuseSocial's Volunteer Fest on July 6 at Heritage Village. The event allowed us to connect with the community and share details about the YMM Volunteer Program launched last fall. We thank the FuseSocial team for organizing this fantastic festival, and we look forward to next year's Volunteer Fest.

New Volunteer at YMM

Introducing our newest YMM Volunteer, Divine Tabrilla! Originally from Cavite, Philippines, Divine is new to Canada, having lived here for only seven months.

In addition to her part-time job at The Brick, Divine enjoys singing and playing volleyball. Though her family is back home in the Philippines, she is working hard to build a better life for them here in Canada.

Divine shared that one of the things she's noticed and appreciates about Canada is how friendly people are, “Everyone is so nice and people smile at you, even if they haven't met you before." Welcome to the team and Canada, Divine!

FMAA Welcomes New Staff

FMAA welcomed Cindy Tucker as our newest team member, joining us as the Human Resources and Administrative Coordinator. Cindy is a proud resident of the region and a hockey mom to two active boys, and she has already embraced the positive work culture and welcoming atmosphere here at YMM.

YMM Welcomes DKI Pro-serve to Airport Campus

The Fort McMurray Airport Authority is excited to welcome DKI to Team YMM!

Originally from the Shuswap area of BC, Tamara Roy purchased DKI shortly after moving to Fort McMurray in 2012 with a former business partner.

"Since 2018, I have been the sole Owner and Operator of DKI as well as Mr. Rooter Plumbing and Level Up Contents," says Roy. Tamara stays busy outside of work, with various volunteer roles, such as Secretary for the local dart league. DKI is an active supporter of the community, sponsoring youth sports, Rib Fests, golf tournaments, the Oil Barons, Wood Buffalo Food Bank, and the Ronald McDonald House Charity just to name a few.

"I decided to bring DKI to the YMM Airport Campus because the area is beautiful. It’s a perfect fit for our business."

The Fort McMurray Airport Authority couldn’t agree more, “On behalf of everyone at YMM, welcome Tamara and team to the airport campus,” says Denean Robinson, President & CEO of the Fort McMurray Airport Authority.

Klorious Kids Childcare Tours YMM

We were delighted to welcome the children from Klorious Kids Childcare to YMM for a fun and educational tour of the terminal on July 26. At YMM, we offer engaging tours suitable for all ages, providing a behind-the-scenes look at airport operations and allowing visitors to explore the many exciting aspects of our terminal.

Frequent Flyer Praises Ground Crew

The GAT Airline Ground Support team at YMM received glowing praise from a frequent flyer in July.

“I fly weekly and the crew at YMM are by far the most efficient I've seen," the passenger states in an email to FMAA. "They are always ready and waiting when the plane arrives, and they get everything - including the passengers - off and back on the planes faster than anywhere else. And they do it consistently too.”

On the YMM Runway: CC-295 Kingfisher

Fort McMurray Airport Authority Airport Maintenance Manager, Jeff Vader, spotted this CC-295 Kingfisher on the YMM Runway, while transiting through the region last month. The aircraft is part of Canadian Armed Forces Search and Rescue fleet, which arrived to the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) in 2020. It's the first of its future fixed-wing fleet and allows RCAF to conduct more effective search and rescue missions in all weather conditions, including reduced visibility, at long range. It can be found across Canada to well represent its lifesaving role.
