Show Your Heart for Honeywood:

Support Our Arena Upgrades!

The Honeywood Arena has long been a cornerstone of our vibrant community, hosting countless events, sports activities, and gatherings. However, to continue providing these essential services, we need your help! We’re calling on our community to rally together and support vital repairs and upgrades that will enhance this beloved space.

There are many ways to lend a hand and make a meaningful impact:

1. Purchase a Sign

For just $25.00, you can purchase a sign at the Township Office. The proceeds from these signs will go directly toward the necessary improvements at the arena.

2. Shop in Our MERCH Section

Visit the MERCH section on our website to explore a range of items for sale. All proceeds from these sales will fund Phase 2 of our fundraising campaign, which focuses on promoting equality by creating new change rooms at the arena. Currently, there are no proper girls' change rooms; they are using a storage room. We are determined to change that and provide our young athletes with the facilities they deserve.

3. Make an Online Donation

Every contribution, big or small, comes with an official receipt, making your generosity not only simple but impactful.

By investing in the Honeywood Arena, you’re not just supporting a building—you’re fostering a sense of belonging and opportunity for current and future generations.

We also encourage you to like, share, and follow us on social media. Help us get the word out about our fundraising efforts!

Let’s work together to revitalize the Honeywood Arena and ensure it continues to thrive for years to come. Your participation matters, and we are grateful for your support.

How Mulmur Got Its Local Government

Before the union of 1841, rural Upper Canada had no municipal government, with authority held by magistrates appointed by the Lieutenant-Governor. Township Councils were established after the Baldwin Act in 1849, making William Campaigne the first local authority in Mulmur.

Squire Campaigne, born in France around 1788, settled in Mulmur on Lot 4, Concession 6. He became a key figure for resolving disputes and providing guidance, serving as the Township’s appointed leader. He remained involved in local affairs until his death in 1859.

The first session of the Parliament of United Canada established district Councils with limited authority. Initially part of the Home District, Mulmur became part of the District of Simcoe in 1843. The Baldwin Act of 1849 created municipal governments, allowing townships to elect their councils.

In 1851, Mulmur was incorporated as a municipality, with John Little playing a crucial role in its establishment. Born in Ireland in 1802, he was the first postmaster and served as the first clerk and treasurer. Little drafted the first bylaws and guided the early Council until his death in 1866.

The first Council included Paul Gallaugher, John Cooper, James Mitchell, William Hand, and David McCutcheon, who laid the groundwork for Mulmur’s governance. Their initial meetings established essential bylaws and set taxation rates, shaping the future of the municipality.

Call for Honeywood Emergency Shelter Volunteers

The Honeywood Arena has been designated as a temporary shelter for individuals affected by emergency situations, including severe winter storms and stranded motorists.

We are seeking dedicated volunteers near Honeywood to assist with shelter operations during these critical times. Your support will help ensure that those in need have a safe and warm place to stay during emergencies.

If you're interested in contributing to this important effort, please reach out to clerk@mulmur.ca for more information on how you can get involved.
