Known for beautiful beaches and experiencing a promising reappearance of its rich wildlife, Mozambique is prepared for the return of travelers; this dynamic east African coastal country expects even greater tourist numbers for 2022 and beyond. During the height of Covid, old properties received facelifts, and innovative new properties were conceived and are now on target to welcome guests. While there are many areas to see and opportunities in Mozambique, we will focus on three prime destinations; Gorongosa, Ilha Calderia, and Vilanculo. These three areas package well together.
Gorongosa
National Park

Mozambique’s Gorongosa National Park hosts many animals, there are plenty of Zebra, and even the occasional hippo can be seen traversing this magnificent land. The lion and elephant have returned nicely; most of Africa’s Big Five are represented well except the buffaloes, which are still exceedingly rare. Waterbuck are particularly numerous on the floodplains, and other antelope species include the sable, impala, nyala, bushbuck, reedbuck, and oribi.
A sense of normalcy is returning to Mozambique, and renovations are currently underway throughout the country. One perfect example is Gorongosa Montebelo Lodge & Safaris whose bungalows are being refurbished, and this venue is most likely to re-open within the first quarter of 2022. This privileged destination is for nature lovers who desire luxury. If you want to make your meals unforgettable experiences, try the Bush Dinner in the African jungle with a bonfire.
Ilha Caldeira

Open your mind, body, and soul to the gentle breeze and sounds from the uncharted Indian Ocean. Experience the luxury and tranquility of the Banyan Tree Resort scheduled to open in 2022. This stunning resort will be located on the private Island of Ilha Caledira, situated off the coast of Northern Mozambique. Oceanfront views will showcase this resort’s pristine view of the Indian Ocean. The island is encompassed by beautiful corals with a plethora of sea animals, offering visitors the chance to experience a once-in-a-lifetime ocean safari.
