President’s Message
Mind the Till, You Are More Than Halfway There!
By Robert Few, President & CEO

We only have four and a half months remaining in 2021. Time flying by has become the norm for me, which is why it is so important to stay focused and avoid mid-year distractions. Has your team achieved the mid-year goals you set, and have you been keeping an eye on not just your results, but all of your inputs? It’s easy to measure whether you hit one of your KPIs or not, but the bigger challenge is making sure that all of the work it takes to reach current and future goals is actually happening. The secret is that the inputs will determine the outcomes at the end of the day, week, month, quarter, and year.

Summer is nearing an end and it’s hard to believe that my kids are going back to school next week. It feels like they just started their summer vacation. Hopefully, you have taken some vacation time with your family and friends this summer and enjoyed what life is really all about. Balancing your personal summer vacation plans and those of your team while continuing to meet your customers’ service level expectations can be a challenge. I have personally found that getting out ahead of this by pre-planning with my team and reallocating resources to ensure production remains steady helps keep us on track. Incentivizing teams to reduce summer call-outs can also help you maintain your service levels.

On the topic of pre-planning, this is a great time to re-evaluate how you are doing against your 2021 plan in all areas including, revenue, employee recruitment/retention, any investments you wanted to make, key projects you wanted to complete, and any reduction in expenses or simply sticking to the expenditures you laid out for the year. Keeping your weekly status meetings even throughout the summer months will aid in staying on track.

As always if you are falling behind on any of your goals and need some help please reach out to me. I have worked with many colleagues throughout the years in growing their business, streamlining operations, reducing expenses, evaluating mergers and acquisitions, instituting successful programs to boost company culture and retention and so much more. This is an added bonus that our GMS partners receive so please take advantage of it. I have said it before, and I will say it again. Your success is our success. I want to do everything in my power to support you along the way and deepen our partnership for the long term.

Finally, I will leave you with this. George Lucas said, “Always remember, your focus determines your reality.” This is a great reminder for all of us. If we focus on the activities that drive towards success and shut out the distractions, we will reach our goals; however, if we let distractions and obstacles occupy our thoughts and time, then we will remain stuck where we are. If it isn’t going to matter in two weeks or two years, don’t waste your time on it now. We have all fallen into the trap of worrying about things that never come to fruition or are simply not productive. However, if you can keep a laser focus on where you want to go, I’m confident you will get there!

Congratulations to our Dealer Support Manager, Robert Young, on your 8 year work anniversary. We appreciate your energy, your kindness, and all the work you do, but most of all, we just appreciate you.

Committer or Complainer. Which One Are You?
By Sarah DeLuca. Human Resources

Commitment is about actions, not words. It’s about either doing or not doing something. It means saying what you're going to do, and actually doing it. It also means respecting your relationship with yourself, and with others, enough to follow through with what you have committed to. The biggest disservice you can do for yourself is seeking out others who give you permission to not act in an obligated manner. In order to be successful, you must surround yourself with people who will hold you accountable for your commitments.

Complaints are the opposite of commitments. Complaining is saying something and having no desire to do anything about it. Behind every complaint is an idea, a belief, or a value that a person is committed to. Otherwise, why complain? Now, let’s be honest, we all complain from time to time. We complain about gas prices, inflation, staffing issues, and other things that may not have gone as we planned. But, have you ever listened to yourself complain? Like REALLY listen? What are you complaining about? How often are you complaining? Have you allowed yourself to become a victim? Are you in an environment where you do not feel heard?

The most important question we have to ask is: How can we turn our complaints into commitments? The first step is to stop having unresolved and uncommitted conversations. If you are going to give your complaints life, commit to doing something about them. Start by establishing a goal and putting your energy into the solution, not into the problem. What resources do you or your employees need to reach these goals? How are you going to enforce accountability? As a leader, helping people overcome their limitations is the essence of what great leadership is about.

Don’t drive yourself mad repeating the same mistakes over and over, and expect a different outcome. Be purposeful in your actions and stay consistent. Those small actions can create the momentum you need to make powerful and lasting changes and when you commit to change, your life and work will start to look better.

Featured Partner
At GMS we are dedicated to partnering with companies that can help our dealer partners grow. From CRMs to equipment, to funding companies, if there is a service or program available in the industry, we want to ensure that our partners not only have access to it but can truly benefit from the relationships GMS forges that lead to bottom-line growth for you. (#yougrowwegrow)
With that in mind, GMS is delighted to announce that we have partnered with SFA to provide financing options for those of you interested in offering a financing program to your customers.

The financing is unique in that the participating dealers can combine both monitoring and equipment into a single customer installment loan. One Loan, One Bill, Zero Hassle. This is important because customers do not want to make two monthly payments for security. Additionally, once the loan has been accepted by the bank, there is no recourse to the dealer if the customer should cancel. The great part about this program is that you still maintain your rights to the customer’s renewal at the end of the contract term (36 months or 60 months).

SFA has also just announced that at the end of August they will be able to offer these special promotions--no customer interest, same as cash for either 36 or 60 months. We will share more details with you on this as soon as it is available.

GMS understands that every business is different and has different needs. If your company is looking to increase cash flow, escape from a dealer program but still need access to capital, or if you need extra cash to fuel growth, this is a great option to help achieve those goals.

Another advantage of this program is there are no volume commitments. You can finance what makes sense for your business, not anyone else’s. If you are interested in learning more, please give me or Richard a call!

Finally, if you are looking for a program or service that we do not offer today, call me. I would love to discuss it with you and explore if we can build more relationships that would benefit your business.
